Infinite electricity

Recommended Posts

I'm suggesting that you add this cheat as it makes space-travelling easy for people who forget to strap a photovoltaic panel or an RTG to their ship.

YES ! I just forgot to enable the fuel cell on my eeloo probe and that would save me. Maybe just make the infinite fuel cheat also give infinite electricity charge...

I thoughr infinite fuel gave you infinite EC, too?

"Infinite fuel" causes EC to not DRAIN, but your electrical devices will still fail to function if you're at 0 EC when you enable it. So, it won't save a probe you find dead.

At least the last time I tried it that was the case.

How about instead you stop forgetting to put panels on?

Or... if you do forget, it's the same as any other major component that you forgot to put on your ship. OOPS. Mission is in jeopardy. MISSION FAIL.

And you have to launch a new probe. (or if you have KAS then a rescue mission may be an option. Where you send a crew to go attach a panel on)

Obligatory smiley

:D

Forgetting to put panels on might not be the reason, it might be that the panels break, not face Kerbol (Unless you can wait for the star to be in the panel's field of view) or might be blocked by a rocket part (or cave if you're playing pre 0.23) that completely obscures the panel's view

OR (Do RTG's decay or not?).

Just edit the save file before you turn the infinite fuel cheat on.

... But people just want to play their saves... and forget to modify the persistent.sfs. Besides finding the right location, despite pressing ctrl-f ,is difficult especially since you have to find the right parts

You can also add EC via HyperEdit.

Even though you can edit resources with hyperedit, and is a lot easier than going through persistent.sfs, I think having infinite EC would be preferable to people who maybe... might not want to use mods in their gameplay or just generally want infinite electric charge for any other reason.

Also, it's not just for my benefit, it's for everyone.

Not only an infinite electricity hack, but a no-heat damage (Including parachutes!!) would be nice for testing crafts.

There is already a hack for that. It's called ignore maximum temperature.

(But I'm not sure it'll work for parachutes, maybe?)

Infinite EC cheat may also be very useful if you want to recreate a pop culture or science-fiction craft which doesn't play well with the game's actual physics.

I mean, have you ever seen a ship in the Marvel universe stop for gas? ;)

Good point :)

Here is an example where it would be useful:

You set a crew to laythe as part of a research trip and you have gained funding from the administration facility . You are able to land on laythe with the crew expedition and take the research back home. You make a manoeuvre node so you can go home after leaving the Joolian system. But you are unable to make the manoeuver as you run out of power, and your solar panels are damaged.

What do you do? You can't send a rescue mission as you might not be able to have enough funds to do so. And you don't want to modify anything.
