Miniature Stock Turret (Grumman TBF Avenger Turret Replica)

Recommended Posts

The smallest manned stock turret I've seen, and it runs smoothly! This is intended for the Grumman TBF Avenger replica I'm working on, but I thought I'd share it with you all.

It's small enough to fit within the fuselage of the Avenger, while still turning and staying in place. I have yet to make it jump the bearing.

This model has rotational limiters in place which currently allow 160 degrees of rotation (to avoid the cockpit), but can be adjusted to increase or decrease it's range.

Just a reaction wheel with some kind of blocker?

I don't like the cubics in the poor Kerbals head though!

Reaction wheel, attached to a cubic and then a decoupler, surrounded by cubics. Light, compact, and efficient!

Ah yes, neither do I but unfortunately if I put the seat any lower it runs into the bearing and throws the turret off. As of now I can't find any workarounds, as making the whole assembly taller means it wouldn't fit in the fuselage.

Ha ha! It really is adorable. I can't wait to see it attached to the aircraft.

Just did a test with the old undersized Avenger I had made, and although it was far too big, it worked like a charm. It does have a slight issue while the plane is accelerating; the turret is pushed against the back and turns a little rough, but that shouldn't be hard to iron out, especially once it's installed in a proper sized fuselage.
