Moving standalone KSP to steam

If I already bought KSP from the kerbalspaceprogram.com store, is there a way for me to put it on my steam library for free, instead of buying it again on steam?

You can get Steam to launch it, but you can't get Steam to update it and track it like it's a Steam program.

In general no. The option to transfer KSP Store licenses to Steam is only available for those who bought KSP before it originally came out on Steam, March 20th 2013. Note that if you do qualify for a transfer and choose to do it, the process is OPTIONAL and IRREVERSIBLE. If you transfer your purchase to Steam, you will no longer be able to download or update the game from the KSP Store. To move to Steam, log in to your KSP Store profile and you will find the button to start the process next to your download link. If you can’t see the button in your profile it means you purchased the game after it was on Steam and you are not eligible, no exceptions, please don’t insist.

As Daid mentions, if you bought before it was available on Steam you can transfer it over. Use the store interface to do so, pic from the My Account page (use the Transfer Purchase button):

If you bought after the deadline you are out of luck for transferring it, you would have to repurchase through Steam (or a reseller selling Steam codes).

Is it not possible to transfer to steam now?  I bought my copy in 2013, yet it is not showing as available to transfer to steam?

The option still shows for me. You have to have purchased from the store before March 20th 2013 for the free transfer to be possible.

Ah that sucks, missed it by a few months then.  Unfortunately, I didn't start using steam till a year ago.  However, steam is great for keeping games up-to-date and I am a bit sick of the broken KSP patch system.
