Useless, but cool trick nonetheless.

Everyone knows hitting F2 will hide the all of the informal displayes, allowing for some cool shots. Well, you don't have to turn them back on to do anything. You can actually toggle things without those ugly displays, though it may be a bit harder.

You see, when you hit F2, all that changes are the graphics, not the input boxes. This is what I mean:

I can turn this light off without seeing the display. All I need to do is click near that crescent like line on the inside of the wheel.

It's a pretty cool thing to do, although I suppose there's not much use for it. Anyone else know this?

I never knew about that! I guess it could be used to activate things that can't be binded to an action group, such as making Kerbals go on EVA, while still keeping the displays hidden.

Yup! Used that trick in some of my videos when a particular action had to be done and I'd forgotten to set a key to it.

Yes, all controls remain active when F2 is pressed, I launch nearly every rocket this way. You could in theory fly a whole mission like it, too. #HardMode

Having no access to those fancy action groups I am always switching back and forth to shut/open the oxidizer (reverse) and open/shut the intake (forward) on my heavy hauler truck.

Great info now I will do it with out switching F2.

Just recently been using this mod ScreenMessageHider and cinematic shots are way better. This should be stock.

After doing some experimenting with these invisible Boxes. This is how to detect if the pointer is located within the Option Box: the scroll wheel stops zooming.

Thank you! I absolutely hate it when I'm trying to take a lovely screenshot, but my antenna is transmitting or I just dropped out of timewarp.

As Squad is redoing the UI for the Unity 5 update, hopefully they'll fix that issue and hide all messages when F2 is hit.
