Airbus A330-300/Airbus A340-313X Replica

Recommended Posts

It took me a long time to get this replica working, but I present: the A330/A340-300 Family! (Well, not all of it.)

Airbus A330-300: The successful competitor to the Boeing 777, the A330 is a twin-engined wide-body aircraft, capable of operating on both medium and long-haul flights respectively. After the permission of certain aircraft by the FAA to fly long-haul routes with twin engines, It has grown beyond the short routes of domestic and regional flights.

Airbus A340-313X: The longer-range and less fortunate sister to the A330, the A340 played an irreplaceable role before the dawn of twinjet transcontinental aircraft. While it is no longer in production (i cri ebrytaym ;-; ) the aircraft is still in use by airlines all over the world, mainly because of it's unpeakable range.

Thank you! :D

Indeed, I wish the Mk3 System had another airliner cockpit that costs less or similar - The shuttle cockpit looks horrible on aircraft like these, though. Maybe short-spanned shuttles and SSTOs, but.. honestly, not on airliners. :P

Honestly though, the entire pack of airliners is still incomplete.

Landed both planes on the island runway, so far my comments are:

BfkYOLs.png

A330:

+ The A330 is well balanced and has quite some maneuverbility

+ Good Low speed controllability

O The middle Main landing gear shouldn't be there

The A340:

O Not as Nimble as the A330, but still acceptable

- poor low speed controllability when compared to A330

Other improvements that can be made to both planes are:

>Inactivate the Roll on the rudder control surfaces so that the aircraft does not yaw to the opposite direction it is turning.

>Add action groups to left hand side and right hand sides for asymmetric thrust runway backtracking~

Hope to see more from you, Columbia!

Thank you for the feedback! I needed to keep the cruising speed and ability similar, and I may have overdone it on the A340 (If you looked at the jets - they're 85% thrust). The A330 was pretty much adapted from the A340-300, with B747-400 engines attached.

Also explains why the center gear is still there. I should've removed it before release.

And I never knew that the rudder made it yaw to the opposite direction, honestly. More testing showed this pretty soon.

For backtracking with asymmetric thrust, I may have to rely on more control surfaces - It seemed unrealistic to use engines asymmetrically to turn on ground, and there's no steering ability on the nose gear. (SQUAD plz) I have to rely on more control surface input in that case.

I'm astonished that you were at least able to land it - My two attempts, both with the A340 were failures. My first attempt during a landing ripped an engine straight off (and I had to struggle all the way to KSC).

The second ran over the runway and was potentially destroyed but the crew survived. Oddly, it reminded me of Air France flight 358.

Alright, I'm working on it. Thanks again!

I was performing a taxiing test, and it arrived in *one* piece..

*If you count a whole wing torn off but rest of fuselage intact.

Congrats on release Colombia! You have a lot of projects going on right now, and I'm proud of you. Also, I do love the SCA, and these craft as well. Great job dude!

Thank you! Very encouraging compliment :D

It's just a quick change, to fix any issues that came up before release.

Link is of course, still the same, feel free to give suggestions and comments!

Good morning, ladies and gentlekerbs, this is Kathay Pacific Airways. We are cruising at Flight level 219, at 21,900 feet. Our flight will take us across the Insular Island to the Kerbin Mountain range regional airport.

Relax, and enjoy your flight. We will be serving food and drinks soon.

I love doing these kinds of reports.. Makes me feel as if the Kerbals really are on their vacation of a lifetime. :D

As far as an alternate nose that would look the part better, have you considered Lackluster Labs SXT pack? There's a couple of interesting options in that mod, and they are "stock-a-like" parts that use the Squad textures so as to cut down on memory usage.

One of the better possibilities appears to be this cockpit section here:

Good suggestion! While I'd really want to use that cockpit (shiny..) I have an obligation to keep the majority of my creations stock to enable universal usage. I like it, though. :)

After installing Burn Together, I was compelled to do a formation flight.. with airliners.

The A330 was the leader, although the slower one, and the A340 "followed" it, although it was ahead.

I rammed it later of course. What better way to execute Kerbals?
