can I default enable the navball and resources in Map mode?

Recommended Posts

It would be really useful if the NavBall and Resources tabs could always be visible when I go to map mode for a new flight (or return to an existing ship). Is this possible? It's a bit of a pain to always have to click the navball and resource enabling buttons for every single flight.

While this is merely a workaround and not a true fix, I will point out that you can toggle the navball (whether you're in map mode or not) by pressing the decimal point on the keypad.

The one reason I can think of to not want the navball active during map view is if you're using TAB and SHIFT-TAB to cycle the view focus from one planet to another--if the navball is active, SHIFT will increase the throttle, which could be disastrous if done by accident while studying the map (especially if the sound is turned off and one doesn't notice until some time later).

SQUAD needs to use the game-default mod key (Alt in Windows) for all the "backwards" behavior (target toggle with Tab in the map, symmetry selection in the build scene). Shift is usually used for this, si that's what most users default to; using shift for it only half the time causes confusion. The modifier key needs to be consistent across uses.

In short, if Shift is throttle-up, it should ONLY be throttle-up - no exceptions. If the modifier key is Alt, it should ONLY be Alt - no exceptions.

There's a mod that does this but I forget what it's called. It's on CKAN.
I think its called MapShowNavBall. It's for an older version but still works.

No offence but did you even READ other replies before you posted? I already posted this exact same answer yesterday.

Haha oops. I had this tab open on my phone when there was only one reply and forgot about it. Didn't refresh before answering :P

I agree with the rationale, problem is alt+tab is a Windows shortcut to switch between running applications. Please never mess with alt+tab ;)

Yowza - I forgot about that one. Is there a nearby key handy to pair with Tab to be it's "cycle backwards" counterpart? Tilde maybe?

…I know that's the standard console access, but KSP doesn't have a console?
