Seperate Flags for Vessel and Planting

So there are a few things that would be really cool to have with the whole flaggy-thing.

Say I want to have a space program logo on a clear backdrop to mount on the side of my Launch Vehicle Boosters or Command Pod, but want to plant a flag with a solid colored backdrop or an image that would not look good plastered to the side of the rocket.

It would, I imagine, be fairly simple. Give all crew-carrying parts a marker that says that they must let Kerbals EVA with a different flag than the vessel flag. Clicking on the Flag button in the VAB/SPH would let you pick both plantable flags and rocket flags.

And its not just logos, its spaceships and spaceplanes that you want to give names and still have Kerbals plant your space program's flag. You can make a flag with the ship's name on it and use that as the vessel flag, and then you can use your space program or nation's flag on the Mun or Tylo or Eve or Minmus.

Good idea. I nearly suggested being able to apply a ship name to vessels a while ago, but never got round to it. Your idea covers that and more.

Right, but of course being able to name your ship on the hull using other tools in-game would also be cool. Remember the decals tab that used to be in pre0.18 KSP? I always assumed that various different types of flags could go there.

So what you want is a Mission Flag (as opposed to a national flag)?

I'd expand this. Any part that displays a flag should be able to display any flag. Right click the part, select a menu item that lets you choose which flag is displayed on that part.

I like this idea. Right now, the only other way to do this is to simply create a "flag" that has nothing but text. There are many drawbacks to this idea. At one point, I thought of creating a set of parts that would simply use the vehicle name field, but that task became too difficult with me trying to also redesign one of the college courses I teach (teaching college pays, playing KSP kinda doesn't ).
