KSP is coming to the Wii U

This is rather unfair. Yes Squad rather pushed the "1.0" branding, and yes they've added features without fixing old bugs, and yes they are targeting new users with the consoles. But in a world full of day-1 DLC, pay-to-win microtransactions, abandoned early access games, and all the other ways game developers have found to keep milking the money out of the same players, Squad have avoided all of that.
Examples that are worse do not invalidate the sentiment.

I'm starting to think the console versions won't be as close to the PC version as initially thought.

I knew that from the start. It's easy to port a console game to PC, but to take a PC game go the other way? PC's always have been and always will be more powerful and less limited than consoles.

Who would they sell out to? SpaceX?

EA, obviously.

Or PC version will become cut enough to run onto weak consoles. *backups one more copy of KSP, just in case*

What will be interesting to see is how they differ. Will they just put a hard cap on part count to keep performance acceptable? Will they just dial up the max physics delta and endure the reduced accuracy? Will they go 2d style like SimpleRockets? Hilarious dark horse: Will they use rigid joints or otherwise weld the craft to be inflexible?

I am genuinely amazed at the sheer hostility and outright hatred on display here from so many users. What on earth happened to the formerly fun-loving, considerate, and helpful KSP community I used to know? It doesn't matter if the game comes to other systems than PC if you already have it on PC. KSP will not spontaneously stop working for you once those versions are out, and updates aren't going to be put on indefinite hold to support the console versions exclusively.

What on earth happened to the formerly fun-loving, considerate, and helpful KSP community I used to know?

1.0 happened. Where Squad seemingly said “We don't want something great, we just want something delivered and be done with it.â€Â

Now, appearances may deceive. Maybe 1.0 was really bug free and 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 were planned all along. And maybe we are wrong in assuming that a software company whose track record is mediocre smartphone game can indeed port a complex and hardware intensive game as KSP over to wide range of consoles with ever decreasing hardware specs. And yes it is assuming that Squad doesn't care about the long-term effects on the KSP “brand†because they're not planning anything longterm and are milking the cow right now for all it's worth.

So none of that may be true. Squad is genuinely trying to make major improvements on the game, and is right on top of Flying Tiger Entertainment (who is using a shock-and-awe approach to leave their mark on the world) to ensure it's going to be a smash hit on all consoles. Maybe. But it doesn't have that perception. And Squad spawned off from a marketing company. And in marketing, perception is reality.

Any Wii U nay-sayer still has to give a good excuse to why this is a bad idea.

Good reason aren't:

- it wont run on the Wii U, because you have no info on how it would run or what it would take to run it.

- it wont hinder PC development, because there's a dedicated team for that.

- Flying Tiger Entertainment isn't capable of doing 3 ports/too much on their plate, because you don't have any info on how hard or easy it would be to port it over.

- because you don't like Wii U.

It's more likely detail levels will be reduced to match the processor in question. I'm sure we all have a tendency to crank up the settings and then complain when we can only build 50 part stations but if you lower the detail levels you can certainly go bigger.

Not being excited in any fashion about the news and expressing technical concerns should not be considered as 'hostility and hatred'.

That was not at all what I was referring to. I was referring to the large quantities of hateful ignorant statements concerning the Wii U's userbase, as well as the high volume of posts that more or less can be summed up as "I think SQUAD is selling out". The former are just flame-baiting at best, and the latter serve basically the same purpose.

My advice to any who wish to complain: learn to do so tactfully. Insulting 10 million people who bought a Wii U by declaring that they're all "kids, soccer moms and grannies" is not tactful. Not even a little.

I got it.

I bet the same people assured me in pre 1.0 discussions flame wars, that the whole KSP thing is just a fraud to steal my ten bucks I paid two years ago. :D Yeah, such comments are plain ridiculous.

I don't have a problem with KSP being on more consoles. I think it's actually a good thing, since more people will have access to KSP, and then more interest in space. The only thing I am worried about is that if FlyingTiger can pull this off or not. 3 console ports for one company that have only made mobile games and have never made anything for these consoles!

my thoughts exactly.

Its a matter of faith in FT, and we have no reason to believe them.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I can understand the, uh, unhappiness in some folks regarding porting to the consoles, in a way. IMO, it all comes down to our human "tribal" mentality, i.e. "our side is right, anyone who is not on our side is an enemy." It seems silly, certainly, but it's something that's hard-wired into all humans. Made sense back in the caveman days (survival and whatnot), but doesn't transfer well to modern-day society. But oh well, what can you do?

Personally, I welcome the ports. More people playing KSP can't possibly be a bad thing, as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe the reason that Squad is deciding to expand to Wii U (and to a lesser extent, XBox 1) is that KSP performs so much better on Unity 5 that they felt it would be perfectly fine... I hope...

Do we have any confirmation that this is actually a thing? All the "official" reports I've seen so far have just been reporting on the now-private video--if I recall the PS4 and X-Box ports were announced with quite a bit more fanfare. Have we actually heard from the devs about this?

It's not officially confirmed, but considering the trailer was leaked on Nintendo's official Youtube channel I'd say it's overwhelmingly likely, though there could be an 11th hour about-face.

Had it been leaked by Squad or Flying Tiger I might suspect the trailer had been made anyway without the final go-ahead for the port, but not with it already having been in Nintendo's hands.

I'd say that Squad was going to announce it later, and Nintendo released the video earlier than it should have been. It'll public again concurrently with Squad's official announcement.
