That annoying alternate camera view of KSC upon game load with loss of control.

Recommended Posts

So, when loading a saved game (e.g. just after loading up KSP), I often get this view, which has plagued me since I started playing KSP way back in v0.18.

The problem with this is that you lose all control over the game - you have to Cmd+Q or Alt+F4 out of the game because nothing works. (I've had this happen on Linux, OS X, and Windows).

I have always played a heavily modded game, so I have no idea which mod is responsible.

I have also always had two monitors on my computer - one with KSP and one usually with a web browser open so I can waste time while waiting the ten minutes for KSP to load (I run a *lot* of mods... I really look forward to a stable 64-bit version of KSP, but I digress...).

So, as it turns out, after clicking the Load Game button in the main menu, while waiting for the saved game to load, I always buggered around on Facebook or something while waiting. However, I found a consistent work-around for the problem: don't Alt-Tab/Cmd+Tab or do anything in any other program. Force yourself to sit through the game loading time. Doing it this way, you never get that weird camera view, and you keep control over the game.

Hope this helps someone. :)

Oh, and before anyone asks: there is nothing out of the ordinary in the log file. :P

It's dangerous to go alone! Take this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/95168-1-0-X-Malah-s-Quick-mods#QuickGoTo

Preferably with this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/60863-1-0-2-Toolbar-1-7-9-Common-API-for-draggable-resizable-buttons-toolbar

Helps in my case. And that is almost every time I load my heavily modded career.

I used to have those. They never worked when this camera angle happened because of the loss of all control over the game.

Alternatively, open the debug menu and clear input locks.

I'll give that a try next time I fire up that computer. Thanks! :)

As far as I can tell, KAC causes this. I only ever experience this bug when I switch from one save to another where the Universal Time is after one or more alarms are set to trigger - in which case it happens every single time like... uh, clockwork.

The best solution is, when you know you want to switch to a save "in the future", close the game and then go straight to that save from the menu. You can go back to saves "in the past" with no trouble.

Weird. You loose the ability to rotate camera and click on buildings to change scene, but not the clickability of the buttons. For me it's just having all 4 destinations buttons on space center (VAB, TS, SPH, R&D) and hopping to any other scene (I prefer R&D because it's the fastest), and next update on space center gets a regular camera.

Never tried clear input locks though.

That option isn't in the debug menu.

Hitting escape and going back to the main menu also works.

No, it doesn't; or, at least, not for me: "you lose all control over the game".
