engine pylons not detaching

Recommended Posts

hey guys, keep getting a problem with booster rockets either not detaching from pylons or the pylons fire but the booster still stays attached, then i have to cart the whole lot to space before a decoupler does the job on a stage.

sometimes they just fire and drop, still leaving the booster attached, i try and make sure they are in line with the booster, but this does not always help...a bug?

on the same line sometimes my mouse pointer stops clicking an object or i have to double click on everything?

a restart stops the mouse prob though.

thanks

I'm not sure if I understand this correctly. So you want to decouple some boosters, but when the decoupler stages the boosters are still attached?

If that's the case then make sure that your boosters are attached to the decoupler and not to the main rocket in the middle.

Or maybe your staging is wrong. Make sure that on the bottom right in the VAB everything is in the correct order.

I hope that helps, if not, a screenshot of your craft would definitely help me.

If you have the Kerbal Engineer tool, you there's a pretty easy way to tell if the boosters are attached to the radial decoupler(I'm guessing that's what you're using). When properly attached, the you'll have a hell of a lot more dV then if you just attached the boosters to the rocket(so now KER is seeing the boosters as dead weight). You can actually see it change in real time as you connect the boosters then without.

From the description it sounds like you're using: [TABLE=class: wikitable sortable jquery-tablesorter]

I've never used those, so I don't know how they're supposed to work when they detach.

Usually one of these are used to detach boosters:

argh lost my post, ok, yep I’m using those val, wanted to use pylons as they have the effect of pushing the booster away rather than just slipping down the body of the rocket, so as not to cause engine/rocket damage, staging was fine, always check that and rearrange how i need, haven’t got a rocket pic as it happens with most of them, ill try the TT-70, and keep an eye on the engineer.

cheers guys

thanks Temeter, that does explain this at least, i have just tried on a kw fuel tank and srb heavy boosters, none detach and are carried into orbit?

checked engineer, they are showing power so connected properly, i see the decouplers fire but the booster is still attached to the rocket body, i cannot seem to get them far enough away from the main body

If your tanks are slipping down the ship, try attaching them at the top ( attach in the middle and adjust down) add a single strut at the bottom of the booster to hold it to the central tank.

How it does it by default And How to do it better
| | H | |xH x = Decoupler, _ = strut
| |xH | | H
| | H | |_H
/\ /\ /\ /\
