[Question] Can I do a Forward-slip and a Sideslip in KSP

Recommended Posts

Hi DrBurst.

I think I know what you mean, like jinking in Desert Strike right?

You can actually do this with RCS thrusters, use I,J,K,and L as if they were WASD to thrust laterally, depending on your thruster placement, this will allow you to side-slip or 'jink' your craft in low gravities like on the Mun or on Minmus.

Hey,

Thanks for the help! No, it isn\'t that. It\'s an atmospheric move. It is when you your the aircraft without changing its ground track to increase drag and altitude. Commercial airliners use it sometimes.

Ahhhh now I understand.

To be honest I\'m not sure this works very well in KSP, I have tried to do this myself but I was not happy with the results, and just pulled up to slow down.

You have Yaw control with A and D, and you have roll with Q and E (it\'s a because of the rocket controls, it\'s not correct for aircraft) but airflow over the wings is not handled accurately yet, just try sideways mounted wings, they won\'t give you any lift at all.

This fault is going to be worked on eventually, but until then we are stuck with having to raise the nose, if you have a lot of unwanted velocity you are better served by doing a few 360 degree turns for now.

Ooooo, but that was the most fun thing to do in flight sims :\'(

Absolutely, I loved sideslipping in the turbo cardinal in FS9, tell you what, make this idea a suggestion to the devs on the dev forum, it might get them interested in fixing the aircraft physics.
