Why are my parts heating up? *screenshot*

Recommended Posts

I have just recently put up a new Space Station around Kerbin, the first since 1.0.

I have just noticed that my parts are slowly taking damage, is this due to the new thermodynamics? Is this why I need radiators?

Also, this is in a polar orbit giving it 24/7 sunlight. Please correct me if I am wrong here.

Welcome to the forums! :)

Your parts are not taking damage, but yes, they are heating up.

I cannot see from your screenshot if you have a heat-producing part on your station or not. If you do, then yes, you need radiators.

If you do not have a heat producing part, then you are the victim of a known bug in the heat conduction code in the current version of KSP. A bugfix has been announced for the next patch. For a temporary workaround, you can try pressing Alt+F12 and select "ignore max temperature" in the Cheats tab. This will not stop the buggy heating, but it will stop your station from exploding due to it.

You can also try launching a new module with some Thermal Control Systems. Specifically those, the extending ones; using the static Radiator Panels will not help you, since they only do passive cooling. The thermal control systems will actively look for hot parts to cool down, so they may (or may not) be able to keep the heating in check.
