Laythe heavy vessel aerobraking (Glory of Kerbin), careerplay

Hello all,

I made up a short and interesting Picture Gallery for those who are looking for how to enter Laythe by cheap aerobraking! It is a low deltaV transit with multiple slingshot maneuvers on the Mun, Jool, Tylo and finally Laythe!

In exact: KLO 300 km to Laythe AP about 300 km with 3000 m/s deltaV, far away from a optimized transfer window!

Its separated to three parts, some pics have additional comments from me.

The transfer is depicted with the important map views, and the vessel status is documented with resource and KerbalEngineerRedux tabs open to see the total deltaV, temperature, and all the other important stuff!

(The vessel contains 383 parts and runs with about 50 frames per second, don`t ask me why, i have a native intel liquid coolingsystem on my Quad i-7 4770, plus 2x fast GPUs, it goes sometimes up to 3.9 ghz, extreme tweaked bios...)

(Pease note, due to the size of the vessel it contains Kerbal Joint Reinforcement (Mod), thanks Yukon:wink:)

Contract assembly and lifting from launchpad to orbit: (19 pics)

Vesseltransfer (Glory of Kerbin ) to the Joolian system: (25 pics)

Multiple aerobrake maneuvers with little LF use in Laythe athmosphere: (19 Pics, no comments made...)

(The KER readout showed once a critical temperature of 96% for some structural parts, it nearly gave me a cardial stop!)

Some pictures for the curious with expensive broadbands,

I hope it could give you some information of the situation on Laythe in the means of considering doing something similar with kerbaled craft...

Inside this vessel are some ten of my most experienced Kerbals... also Jeb, Bob and Bill...

I wish you all happy landings!

...That ship is huge. Did it wobble during the aerobraking?

Oh, it is equiped with Kerbal Joint reinforcement... It didn`t wobble, maybe a little bit but the bottom heavy design and the parachute-like aerobrakes at the frontend made it stretched out flying straight and stable!

I guess a smaller similar construction without KJR may rip-off the aerobrakes when there are too many... gonna try this too
