Tsunami! (not)

Remember that it is not the height of the wave that is so dangerous. It is the persistence. A normal wave breaks and then washes back into the main body, a tsunami wave pretty much keeps going..

Three feet of water is enough to wash away animals, people, cars and even homes.

Meet a tsunami in the middle of the ocean and it would have to wear a sign to let you know it's coming or you wouldn't notice. Let that wave meet the shallow coastline and that's when it becomes terrifying pretty quick.

As Camcha said, three of your yank feet, or 1 m for the rest of the world high tsunami is still dangerous since tsunami is a very long wave. When the wave reaches the shore, the huge amount of water behind it still wants to continue to move forward, pushing the front up and significantly over that 1 meter mark.

There is a tsunami warning earlier today! The official report said that a unpredicted monster waves were 3-feet! OH MY GOSH!!!

Ok, still, that is the biggest I've ever seen in California. And I thought the big waves at the beach were pretty big.

Anyone else heard this?

It's related to the 8.4 earthquake off the coast of Chile yesterday. There's a thread in here about it.
