It isn't so much a 'landing' as intercepting a very large rock and trying not to smash into it at too high a speed. Also, the Algerians in this Alternate History are a bit... ballsier with their technology.

Yes, one of the suggestions made to improve the Civilian Aircraft program was to build bigger. Currently, it is 2.5m wide. The next iteration will have a larger cross-section.
