Turn off part tint when overheating

Recommended Posts

When things get hot, they glow orange/red etc (this is not the debug colours available via F11). I'd like a mod that can remove that glow, or toggle it on/off if possible (via blizzys/stock toolbar?)

I'd love to take screenshots of my space station but the bugs regarding the thermal system means every parts temperature is infinity (when it really shouldn't be), which means screenshots just look awful. I'd love to document my trip to Eve and Duna, but the bugs with the thermal system make my microsats overheat which means the screenshots don't look that good.

Pretty please? :)

Claw's Stock Bugfix Modules deals with the infinite overheating glitch - I haven't had it since I installed it. :)

Not to my satisfaction. I have it and FAR installed and I still have to Ignore Max Temperature. Also, no amount of mods are going to lower a parts temperature from infinity, it's impossible. Once it's saved in the savefile, that's it. Every fix I've seen is more preventative than a cure.

Besides, this would still be useful during say, a nuclear engine burn, or coming to the end of a launch.. I think.. I just reckon it might be a neat little idea.

Huh, that's odd. I had installed the bugfix modules after a ship had the infinite overheat glitch and it fixed itself after I timewarped enough for the temperatures to get reset...

But yeah, that would be a nice mod for cinematics and screenshots. :D

Nathan IS correct the glow is triggered by the temperature gauges.

If you keep the gauges suppressed with DMagic's Temperature Gauge Killer the glow won't appear. But as soon as you temporarily enable the temperature gauges ( F10 ) to do a quick check that fugly glow appears on overheated parts and stays there. Even after parts have cooled back down.

So it's a bug that the overlay can't be turned off then?

Default is not off. And shouldn't be. I want to know when my bearings are overheating instead of being presented with a gigantic explosion.

That's what the temperature gauges are for. The fugly red glow serves absolutely no purpose. And even if it did it should dissipate when the part has cooled down.

No, the temperature gauges should be off by default too. They are no different than the aerodynamic overlay arrow things, they artificially hover over your craft and detract from the visual appearance. GUI elements should not hover over your craft by default, ever. It should require a button or a click.
