New here. NetworkTech/Cinematographer/Redditor. Now obsessed with KSP

hello all. I recently discovered KSP via reddit and became obsessed with the demo (after 24 failed launches) and had to buy the game. Ive never failed so many times, yet been so driven to get to the next milestone. Ive completed the training in the demo, and have started my career mode with some successful missions and flights.

Looking forward to this long journey that just started with KSP.

Addictive, isnt it :) It gets easier as you go and learn. I highly recommend a visit to the tutorial section of the forums. It will accelerate your success a great deal. Dont feel bad about using quicksave or revert. The idea is to get through the learning process so you can truly enjoy it later when you have some better skills. Or perhaps have a career save and a separate sandbox save so you can do all that crash and burn stuff in there and still go for more realistic play in your career save. I can see right now that your hooked, so what part of your life are you going to give away to launch rockets? lol

Thanks everyone. It's been many years since I've been an active member of any forum, but I'm glad to be here!

I'm about to purchase my airplane parts from R&D for 45 science later today. I watched some tutorials and they helped a great deal. I have yet to start a sandbox game, I've primarily focused on career. If you had one tip for career mode, what would it be?

I haven't had time to think about what I'm going to give up in replace of KSP, because all I've done is KSP:confused:

Also, are you able to play with others online?

Protip from one cinematographer to another!!!!

- Don't do everything as soon as you can. You'll run out of things to do eventually, and eventually run out of content to make videos on. Enjoy the time. Relax and smell the roses. Trust me, you won't regret it. :)

I have to agree with this. There's still so much for me to do in KSP but none of it really attracts me. (Jool, Dres, Eve return, Moho, Eeloo, they're all still out there) I've rushed everything that interested me a bit too fast. :)

Welcome aboard!

Remember that money and science are both resources you need. Spend one in order to get more of the other. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that EVERY mission must fulfill a contract... they don't. Do a few missions for the pure science once you have enough money.

Oh, and see how many contracts you can fulfill in a single flight. You get some very odd flights that way, haha.

A couple of things actually. 1) Dont be in a hurry to spend your science points or your money. You may really need something later you may not be aware of now.

2) Try to plan ahead, for example. I have a really cheap and small standard probe launch vehicle I use for sat contracts. I always have at least one science gathering device, power, and comms on it. You never know when you might want to use that later. I have one on Duna's moon right now. Every once and a while I get a contract offer to send science data from the surface. So, I switch to that probe , read the temp and send the info via comms. I get the money for that one over and over even though you get no more credit for the science. Dont turn down easy money. I think it cost me around 4000 to launch that thing, so far Ive made nearly 400,000 from it. You got to love that. You can do similar things with other craft in other places. This only works for contracts that dont require you to build a new space craft.

Thanks for all the tips. The game is a lot to take in at once but note taking has helped. Ive currently unlocked all but _______________ in the 3rd teir, I currently have ____ science which Im trying to decide how to spend. I haven't been paying too much attention to money, Ive upgraded a few facilities but have basically used the same rocket and manipulated it for each mission. I havent had much success completing more than one task per flight, it seems to get unstable if I try to many things, but I may be trying to do too much. Currently trying to orbit and return safely.

Ive been trying to collect science from each biomee, but not sure what Ive completed so far, is there a place where you can check completed science by biomes?

Everyone is helping so much, thank you!

Not sure, but there is a tab I believe it is in the science building that list what you have done and where. You may have to make a list from that. I think I have run into the same situation you are talking about.

I dont know how up to date it is but there is a post in the tutorial section called Beginner Science that helped me greatly. A lot has changed since that was posted but it still has some useful info in there for the new to space. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/62814-Tutorial-Beginner-Science?highlight=Beginner+science

This link here is helpful as well http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/91529-A-Basic-Guide-for-Mission-Planning-and-Rocket-Construction

As a fellow noob Kerbonaut, my 2 cent tip is to use F5, quicksave by default, and F9, load quicksave by default (press and hold) liberally.

I don't do any game videos, but I have done a breaking bad montage :)
