I wouldn't even know what is on windows 8. I am primarily a windows 7 and smartphone user of skype.

Microsoft bought Skype like a year or two ago already. Old news. It's still a free download if anyone wants to use it... nothing says you have to buy-in to all the other options it offers. I used a very trimmed down version, just for messaging.
