Heard on the news today (business channel) that Lego is running short on supply.

I heard that too. I'm sure they'll figure it out but it kind of drives the demand up for now.

So, we're about 50 supporters away from 5,000! That gets us halfway to the goal and when we reach 5,000, LEGO will add 6 months (182 days) to the deadline. If you haven't already, go support the project! It's free to do :-)

I fear the price, but it is a really neat model. Having the guts inside really adds to the whole thing.

agreed. this is likely a $200 model and the internals really take it to the next level. The good news, it costs nothing to support and say you like it. We can worry about how to pay for it after LEGO approves it and puts it on the shelf lol.

This was one of my favorite sets growing up. I noticed that they're using the same truss piece that was used for the majority of the service structure on the shuttle for the LES tower and had a huge nostalgia trip. Very cool project; I especially love the new internals. This instantly got my support and I'm passing the word on.

Supported. I missed out on the Curiosity rover set, so I will definitely try to get this one if/when it becomes a set.

Yeah the Curiosity set is super nice. If you feel like sourcing your own parts, you can download the instructions for free and still build it. It'll cost a bit more but if you think it's worth it, have fun :-)

Thanks for passing the word on! That's basically what I'm doing lol. I have no vested interest in the set besides a love for science and rocketry and I want to see this make it to the shelves for the inspiration it'll give to those that see it. I'm trying to get a few big names in the science community to support it publicly. Can you imagine what a tweet from Scott Manley or Destin from Smarter Everyday would do to the supports on this thing?

I'm not sure what happened but the supporter count is FLYING up! It went up 600 in less than 14 hours and is now going up at a rate of about 30-40 per hour. At this pace. We'll reach the goal by the end of the month!

Let's keep the momentum going so if you haven't already, share this with someone, post a link on your facebook or twitter, and ask for support!
