The Separon - an RCS Sepatron

The Separon is the latest development from Cardinal Enterprises.

The Sepatron proved to be a pain in the behind. Every so often the exhaustflame of the Sepatron damaged the main craft, usually ending in a big bang and the loss of craft and crew. "NO LONGER!" an engineer at Cardinal Enterprises cried and developed the Separon (at the expence of several boxes of Kerbalsnacks). Evil tongues claimed this was because the engineer was responsible for several spontaneous craft disassemblies during flight due to inaccurate placing of Sepatrons. The Separon has comparable thrust to the Sepatron but can be shutdown if required (through an actiongroup). It can even be restarted when neccesary (also through an actiongroup).

The Separon has two simple modes: "ON" and "OFF". "ON" here means the same as "Full thrust", "OFF" means ... well basically ... does nothing at all. The Separon will run as long as there is monopropellant on the craft it is attached to, unless shutdown previously. This somewhat limits the use of the Separon so don't forget to add a shutdown option (actiongroup) when using on the main craft. The Separon has a very small tank in itself with highly compressed monopropellant (5 liters worth). This ensures it functions even though no monopropellant tank has been added to the craft or stage. BEWARE! The Separon is highly parasitical in nature and will even use the monopropellent of not activated other Separons! If left unchecked, it will leave the main craft completely devoid of monopropellant.

Initially Jeb protested fiercely against the Separon. "It makes spaceflight like a walk in the park", he objected. He tried to prove his point by adding a small monopropellant tank and four Separons to a MK1 pod, taking off with it to about one kilometer and safely landing it without using parachutes. This experiment only made the managers more enthousiastic and the Separon was added to the Kerbal Space Program. Jeb has been sulking in the main hangar ever since.

About the mod

This mod is nothing more than a cfg edit using the model and mesh of the stock O-10 Puff OMS-engine. No matter how you place the Separon on your ship, it won't cause damage when fired. It is meant as a replacement for the normal Sepatron which does cause damage when the exhaust gets too close to an object. The main reason for creating an alternative to the Sepatron is that the Sepatron is so hideous and requires a lot of fiddeling to hide it. The Separon is half the size of the O-10 Puff engine and therefor is a lot easier to place and hide if so desired. It's not as cheap as the Sepatron and somewhat heavier while the thrust is about the same. As it uses monopropellant, there's no need for any hoses. It just uses all sources which can supply monopropellant. As such, it's quite fitting for KSP that it sucks the craft completely dry of the monopropelant when left unchecked.

Extract the zip file and just place the mod in the Gamedata folder. It doesn't require anything besides the stock parts.

I like the short story and all, but could you maybe add a small picture of a close up of the seperaton and maybe a intakeAir or Xenon sepatron with mabye even another exhaust fume

As said before this mod is nothing more than a cfg edit using the model and mesh of the stock O-10 Puff OMS-engine so it's shape is the same as the stock O-10 Puff OMS-engine. I changed several parameters so that it functions as a sepatron.

The top one is the stock O-10 Puff OMS-engine, the bottom one the separon.
