SaintWacko
I've run into a weird issue with MechJeb. Mechjeb isn't turning my ships for some reason. Smart ASS isn't working, ascent guidance's turn isn't turning, and the maneuver planner isn't pointing the ship. I'm not seeing any errors in the log. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I have plenty of electricity, I can manually control the rocket perfectly fine, and SAS works fine. It's just Mechjeb that can't turn the craft. I've tried it with multiple craft designs, to make sure it wasn't a part I had on it. Edited March 24, 2015 by SaintWacko
smjjames
Hm, is it able to turn while in space? Just asking since you didn't really say that. Also, maybe a picture of the craft?
sarbian
A picture with the Attitude Adjustment windows open would help.

My turn start altitude is set to 1km, and as you can see, I'm at 41km and still no turn. smjjames
Try the latest dev version and see if that fixes anything? That's all I can think of.What are those two spherical parts on the top of the rocket?
sarbian
Edit : oops you didThe windows clearly show that some torque is available so I don't understand why it does not try to turn. As smjjames sugested try with the dev releases . A lot was fixed since the last offical. Edited March 24, 2015 by sarbian

sarbian
Indeed, MJ dev seems to be gone from CKAN. Strange since Hakan auomated the update. I'll ask him.Edit : it is still here. In CKAN go to Setting, push New and select the "MechJeb2-Dev" repo and press OK. Then refresh you CKAN. Edited March 24, 2015 by sarbian

SaintWacko
Yes, that should do.It's quite a large file. Here's a link to it. I'll warn you now, I run a lot of mods, so it's entirely possible that one of them is conflicting. However, I've been running a very similar mod list for quite a while with no issues. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bw6pRYvIkMwcOERPbjhLZjh6SGc/view?usp=sharing

smjjames
I'm not 100% sure if it's ship design or something with mechjeb, but I've noticed that it sometimes has problems controlling the left and right movement (parallel to the ground) while in ascent, adding on fins/wings usually fixes this though. Starwaster
Hm, now it's turning my ship again. In a different save, though. Interesting. My experience with it is that it's been a very intermittent phenomenon. I've definitely experienced what you're talking about but fortunately it's been rare for me. MJ doesn't even try to turn the ship when it happens. Sometimes aborting then re-executing the command breaks it out of its funk. If it's a maneuver node sometimes I have to re-create the node.It might also have been responsible for a failed launch attempt where I left the room, came back 3 minutes later to see that instead of approaching orbit, I was at 3km and heading nose first into the ocean....One of these days I'll get around to scouring my log. Or maybe I'll take a look at yours and see if I can find anything to report back with.

I was approaching Minmus and it was working just fine, now I'm trying to circularize 16km above the surface and it won't change the heading.- - - Updated - - -Oh, hello! I think I've found the problem. Or at least something that will allow sarbian to track it down. The issue is that, for some reason, stock SAS is getting turned on, even though it doesn't show it. I turned off Smart ASS, toggled SAS on and back off, then tried using Smart ASS again, and it worked! Now, I haven't done any testing, so I don't know that that was it for sure, but it fixed it for me. Once I finish this flight I'll see if I can do some testing.Edit: Happened again during this flight, and I was able to fix it the same way.Edit edit: Don't even have to turn Smart ASS off. If this happens to you, just tap F to fix it. Edited March 25, 2015 by SaintWacko
sashan
Is it possible to get separate PID values for yaw, pitch and roll? Also, having the ability to save/load PIDs would be great. I'm so sick of readjusting PIDs from memory each time my ssto dramatically changes mass, speed or altitude or switches to another set of engines.Consider this a request. sarbian
It is doable but I m afraid it would become an UI bloat. I'll see what I can do to not make it too large. But I would rather have a method that adjust itself better. What is your main problem with the current system ? Oscillation in atmo, control too violent, ... ? Do you use FAR/NEAR and if so do you have the Mechjeb Extension for those ? Is it with MJ dev (version ?) or release ?
Astartes_Librarius
So I've got a question. Does MechJeb's Delta-V stats thing account for Lift in the TWR calculator? Because I've got a rocket-powered Spaceplane that according to MechJeb only has a starting TWR of .74, but I've been able to fly it quite well since I first built it before even unlocking MechJeb. It's a pretty simple design using 3 AV-R8 winglets (2 for the canards, 1 for the tail), 2 Type B Wing Connectors (each with a lift rating of 2), the Mk 1 Cockpit, the Science Jr., two FL-T400s and a LV-909 with tricycle landing gear. Red Iron Crown
Lift is not thrust, and shouldn't be included in TWR calculations. Most real life aircraft have TWR<1, often quite significantly so.

(career game w/ scientist as the sole occupant)Looking at the change logs, there were some attitude controller changes made here: in build #412I think that was the build where this problem started and those were the sole changes. (some additions to MathExtensions and significant changes to the attitude controller)
sarbian
hum, the test in "set" of attitudeTarget could relate to that. But if I don't have a repeatable case I won't be able to fix it ...
