Eve return possible in 1.0.4?

Recommended Posts

One of the issues is that Eve's atmosphere is very soupy. You might have a craft with 10kdV that can't make orbit because it is draggy but a 7kdV craft will do it because it uses a few slim stacks.

It also depends where you land and lift from. Sea level is a fair bit more challenging than from the highest peak at 7.5km. Your lift flight profile is also going to make a big difference - if you drive through the soup for a long way at low altitude you are much less likely to make orbit and overheating will be a problem too.

Here's the craft file if you want to take it apart: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zosfe1lp529m30r/Eve%20new%20lifter%2069.craft?dl=0

Smallest lander I have seen in 1.04, nice work.

How well does it land? accurate landings is my larges issue. However with an so small lander I can cluster them on mothership.

I guess the high position of the first booster stage is to make landings more stable?

If you want a whole mission that includes a Kerbin lifter, transfer stages, lander and, as a bonus, a science package then here you go...

The lander is tweaked over the one I posted before. This one has tanks that you throw away on launch from Eve with some de-orbit and landing fuel .

Kuzz - almost missed your link... that blue-grey kinda blended in. That's a nice stylish ship! Care to share the craft with us?

I generally don't share craft until close of a book, and even then I can be pretty stingy :) Note that the M7 won't work without surface docking and some kind of towship, but sure I will likely share the lander when Eve: Order Zero finishes.

You can land it just with the airbrakes and 'chutes, no need to burn fuel for that.

Dunno about the position of the booster stage. It's only important that the airbrakes and 'chutes are high up.

Way cool - thanks for posting so much, Fox! I will give it a shot!

No worries man - I will see if I can't imitate it until then! Love the book - keep it up!
