TheDarkStar
Inspired by a real-life escape/suicide pod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOOSE), I decided to try my hand at making one. After many failed versions and deaths, I finally arrived at the Lifeboat-MK2. This photo album is its maiden flight.http://imgur.com/a/vvzPhI've actually done things like that before, although I used the small lander legs to keep the Kerbals from flying out. When you are EVAing a Kerbal and he is near a lander leg, you can open or close it, even if the ship is empty.
TheDarkStar
Because he's not cheap and actually finds satisfaction in doing something himself instead of just pressing a button and having it done for him.You should try it sometime. The game's a lot more fun when you're playing it You make it seem like you are not a fan of MechJeb.

RabidGinger
He's not the only one, but to each their own.As much as enjoy the challenge of landing on other planets and other things there are just some things in which mechjeb is unbelievably time saving. I use it to test the stability of my rocket designs and to launch multiple ships in orbit quickly and effectively so they can rendezvous. But thats about it. Dont use the land feature or transfer feature or any of the other stuff it does

JeanHavoc
Well, thought I might get in on this myself. I recently set about designing a lander that could reach the Mun but would operate in two parts; a descent stage and ascent stage - similar to what the Apollo Lunar Module did way back when. This photo shows my ship in orbit of Kerbin along with its departure stage:Don't know how awesome it is, but I do think it looks cool at least! Now, here's another image after landing on the Mun:Sadly the craft is not quite as efficient as I'd like - there's still lots of fuel left in the descent stage, but I'm pleased with the results thus far. Next challenge for me is to make sure I can actually get back on 200L of fuel - I think it'll be fine given the low weight of the command/service module but we'll see. I'm just glad as always that I didn't explode on impact. Edited October 10, 2012 by JeanHavoc Minor Edit
ginsweater
Project "Spaceplane On Laythe" is not going as well as I might like (NEED MORE LIFT! NOW MORE FUEL! NOW MORE LIFT AGAIN! ) but damn if it isn't producing the prettiest KSP screenshots I've ever taken.
