AI Space Race

I oddly remember wanting this back in like .20, but then chucking it up to "it'll be eventually added", category, but it not got added, nothing even close got implemented. So I'm now re-requesting it.

KSP should have a computer "space race" option, where a computer player will automatically perform launches (based on preset settings)(Basically it would be like a DMP game where two players exist within the same universe but yet do not constantly interact).

The computer would be under its own science and funding. However with science, the rule is with every complete tier (in the normal tech tree)(a whole vertical row), the other player gets that tier auto unlocked as well, which is nice in the beginning but you have to manage your own science later on.

As for gaining money (funding), there would be a set of "pool missions" where both players can take them on (such as satalite deployment, kerbal rescues, probe/rover deployment, etc etc)(compatible with ConteactPacks), however achievement missions (such as enter orbit, achieve X altitude/speed, etc) would remain for both players, and the other couldn't accept/complete the contract before the other.

"Victory", would also be preset. Victory can be anything, such as landing on the Mun, Duna or capturing an asteroid, or crashing into X body. It would also be set as to whether or not the game would end or continue after victory has been achieved or failed. It could also be possible to achieve several objectives, such as first on the moon then land on Duna, then whatever.

It would be even more awesome if you could have more than 2 computers, you could have more than 1, you could have 8 (there will be a maximum).

There would be some form of a launch mechanic, I'd say (if KerbalKonstructs/KerbinSide or KCT isn't installed) that when the computer wants to launch a vehicle, that for one Kerbin hour that the player must occupy their time, they can time warp or (what's preferred) switch over to another mission such as a rover or colony mission and collect science/funds by completing missions.

I'd like to see ts idea mod compatible, with these mods-

KCT

KerbalKonstructs

KerbinSide

ContractPacks

RSS

and more...

Ofc this is a major task for someone to take up, but it's an age old task which has been needed to be done since the days of old.

So who's up to it? (I know I mentioned making a mod a while back, but it's 1000000000000000 times harder than I expected and that tiny massive mod may take years to even get .01 out, so no, I can't do this. We need a mod expert)

Some people seem to approve, but is anyone going to make this happen?

Most likely not. I don't believe that the engine is set up for something like this but there could be a work around.

We would need some form of computer generated craft maker, and use the mission craft spawner to spawn craft that we could call 'the other compainies'.

Overall, I'm not really good at making mods so I don't really know. :)

A lesson I've learned is nothing in impossible in KSP. Since people keep saying that "so and so" won't happen, and two versions later it happens!!

But good point as to the craft creation aspect, but I have a easy fix. Basically the community submits crafts, and the computer will select each craft based on a catagory system, and if there's more than 1, it'll choose which one is cheaper, and within the tech tree limits. If there's still more, it'll just choose one at random.

I just someone will TRY!!!

But the problem with that is that the computer will always choose the best rockets, where as the player will be spending a lot of time figuring out which rocket works or not. This could be awful for new players, as they might be building their first orbiter while the computer has landed on the Mun 6 times and has an Eve flyby underway.

Well this could be tweaked. It could easily be tweaked so the computer randomly uses various vehicles. Possibly even open it up and let it choose vehicles which may or may not achieve the goal.

This would definitely make career more interesting, for me anyway, the lack of this is what makes Career boring for me.

If I knew how to do this believe me I would make this a mod, I've had idea for procedurally generated space stations for other team, Mun base rescue contracts, etc. but these are never seen.

I agree. You could set an error level. Computers can actually be dumber than you think. You could also set random failure.

Add some space between sentences. I hate mechanical errors.

Well then let's get some attention to this so that it can be made! Since we obviously know how it should be made, we just need someone to make it.

As far as I remember, there has never been a request for a complex mod that has been picked up by a modder and was then realized. People make mods because they think of a feature that they want to have in the game and at some point want it to be in the game so badly that they just end up adding it themselves, some even learning to mod just to make it happen. And even that is often not enough motivation to see it through to an end, as you can see by how many mods get eventually abandoned. So the chance of somebody getting motivated enough for an idea that isn't his own is pretty slim; or to look at it from a different perspective, all the people who are skilled enough to make something like this and have enough motivation to keep going will be too busy realizing their own ideas.

Long talk short, if you really want it to happen, you will probably have to pick up modding and make it happen.

Then let's change it and find someone who WANTS to make it, tell people, make this known. Silence doesnt solve anything. Moreover, just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it will, and more importantly it means you skipped reading the OP.

SHAME.

I'd volunteer, but I don't have enough experience to make a full AI. I hope someone picks this up.

Well start simple! Anything is better than nothing. Complex AI can come later. Getting it exist is the hardest challenge, once it exists THEN we can tackle the big stuff.

Ok. Will get started then.

Keep me I contact in the progress and possibly add me to the development team? I'll test it and stuff.

I must say, this likely won't be ready for a long time.
