Haven't struck ore yet but remain hopeful.

(...and yes, you can drop the ore container, light the engine and shoot right from the sea bottom to the air, Polaris-like).

(PS - Jets work fine underwater, as do air intakes!)

You will never find ore there.

Check your Ore.cfg:

BIOME_RESOURCE

{

ResourceName = Ore

ResourceType = 0

PlanetName = Eve

BiomeName = Explodium Sea

Distribution

{

PresenceChance = 0

MinAbundance = 0

MaxAbundance = 0

Variance = 0

Dispersal = 0

}

}

BIOME_RESOURCE

{

ResourceName = Ore

ResourceType = 0

PlanetName = Kerbin

BiomeName = Water

Distribution

{

PresenceChance = 0

MinAbundance = 0

MaxAbundance = 0

Variance = 0

Dispersal = 0

}

}

BIOME_RESOURCE

{

ResourceName = Ore

ResourceType = 0

PlanetName = Laythe

BiomeName = The Sagen Sea

Distribution

{

PresenceChance = 0

MinAbundance = 0

MaxAbundance = 0

Variance = 0

Dispersal = 0

}

}

BIOME_RESOURCE

{

ResourceName = Ore

ResourceType = 0

PlanetName = Laythe

BiomeName = Crescent Bay

Distribution

{

PresenceChance = 0

MinAbundance = 0

MaxAbundance = 0

Variance = 0

Dispersal = 0

}

}

All biomes covered in liquid have their ore abundance set to zero.

Has anyone found a way to get surface samples from ocean floor?

They are separate from water samples.

They are not - at least not in the game. You can surface-sample the ocean, but it does not check for "splashed" or "landed" as far as I know.

You might have better luck with the big drill, the small one needs a higher concentration of ore before it can extract anything.

I was able to get both splashed and landed samples from every biome except mountains and water in 1.0.4 if I remember correctly(there was a highlands near the water over by the bad lands), so I see no reason you could not get landed in Water, you just need to have a Kerbal who sinks...(KIS perhaps?)

Eve has explodium sea on land to, so you can do normal experiments and splashed ones.

You can do splashed experiments at shores on Kerbin.

However I do not know who experiments who has different data.
