Mods for electric propellor

Recommended Posts

I am curious and want to make a plane that flies forever, my plan is to use solar panels to charge batteries that keep it going during night.

My biggest problem is that all the stock engines require non-renewable resources. I am looking for any mod that has electric propellors that only require electricity to run.

This idea was inspired by Nasa tests and Scott Manley's video.

Just to check: you are aware the it won't actually fly forever? You will have to land it whenever you want to fly something else (or need a mod that bypasses the checks about when you can go back to the space centre)

Or use some random reactor mod ( Near Future Electrical for instance ) and... well there's a bunch of possibilities. My favourite was this:

which uses the compressed air RCS from B9 ( electrically powered ), and a mod that lets you use RCS as main propulsion so it's controlled by the throttle - in this case mechjeb, but I'm sure there's probably others. Quite astonishingly silly when you could use a propellor or a ducted fan or something, but fun anyway :)

KAX offers an electric prop that feels fairly balanced.

As far as power usage goes, back in 0.90 FAR my Icarus 2 flew with a command pod on just 12 OX-STATS. So unless KAX has upped the power consumption a lot it shouldn't be a problem for a well-designed aircraft. But you could also look for mods that add larger static solar panels.

Firespitter has some more powerful electric propellers, but they felt like a bit much for me. That said they made decent boat engines.
