Space Boats

In another update, will we be able to make space boats, maybe not to go into space, but like on water and take off (Aircraft carrier?) , and there would be a dock by KSC. Or maybe be able to choose between submarines and boats, These are all just ideas, thought i would share them with ya! :D

Not sure what boats have to do with space programs...

Although, a spaceplane with some of those water landing skis would be pretty cool.

By boats, i mean like BIIIIG Boats, for plane landings, maybe be able to drive it out into the ocean, and launch a plane/rocket from it?

Landing on aircraft carriers is currently hazardous because the game freezes when it loads a craft off rails and will lock any of your control inputs on as if you\'d held the button while it was frozen.

The only use I can think a space boat would have is being able to land in water after re-entry and thus be re-usable, but unless it landed incredibly slowly (which would be very hard to do considering the hydrodynamics, and thus the aerodynamics, of a water vessel) it would be obliterated.

Folding wings?

Folding wings?

Maybe, or some sort of renewable chute system that allowed rapid deceleration while preserving the structure of the craft. Although I fail to see any advantage in a space boats, I don\'t think they should be rejected completely, after all I have made many spaceships and space planes that weren\'t particularly efficient in their function. As long as they aren\'t a pain to use and the kinks in their function are worked out, I don\'t see a reason why to not try and implement them through some sort of hack for the moment.

I have made a space boat before, and it seems as if the main advantage is that it looks cool and is on the top of Jeb\'s 'to-fly' list

Flying aircraft carrier from the Avengers was a boat-multicopter-plane. For all we know if could have flown into space later.

Yeah, but that more than even a Kerbal level of willing-suspension-of-disbelief. It would never fly in real life, and whilst a lot of the stuff we build in KSP couldn\'t either, that thing\'s helicopter engines just couldn\'t ge made to get to takeoff speed.

Most available parts are buoyant, so if you can roll a properly configured plane to the end of the runway then, SPLASH, you have a boat. As for it then being able to get to space, I see that as a mission challenge.

When the ability arrives to open new launch sites of the player\'s choice, I hope a floating platform in the sea will be among the available options.

I do like the idea of recovery ships.

After all, seeing as the eventual premise of the game is to make money for your space program, recovering pods filled with munrock for scientific research from the ocean will be essential.

I do agree that it would be. However, now that I think about it, I can\'t remember ever landing in the ocean after re-entry into Kerbin, I normally lead myself to try and touch down on land.

Also, recovering ships full of \'Munrock\' doesn\'t really need to be player controlled as the game is Kerbal Space Program and not Ocean Recovery Simulator, it could be done by the click of a button.

Has anyone considered an Oil rig. It\'d be movable and large enough to launch rockets from. Just a thought ;)

Last I checked, oil rigs were mounted to the sea floor by support beams and oil pipes. Kinda immobile in that sense. :P

However, a water-based launch platform is a very good idea.

I\'d hate to see vehicle recovery left out completely, but it could be implemented with a 10 second animation cutscene. Enough to acknowledge the event happened without interfering with much gameplay.
