Stock Fairing question

Recommended Posts

I've been having problems with the stock fairings and need so help. When I click on the base it starts the first section. I then drag it to the shape I want and click the LMB to place the cross section. Sometimes it places the cross section and starts the next one, mostly it does nothing and continues with the first section. It seems that it only works if I place it in a particular location. What am I missing?

It's got a text color mechanic for indicating when it is possible to place. It's annoyingly hard to see for everybody and I would imagine impossible if you are colorblind. The text hovering over the middle screen changes colors when you can place it. Placement restrictions have nothing to do with aero, only clipping. It tries to prevent you from clipping the fairing inside the payload accidentally.

If it is detecting a clipping problem, then it should auto-expand when you try to go past that point. That would allow you to still stop at stages for interstage fairings.

Also, for mods to tock, I have seen 2, one that turns them from shattered glass to clam shell and one that rounds angle changes a small amount. But I do also recommend Procedural Fairings. It's a nice mod with lots of options to control the shape. If auto isn't working for something, there is a simi-manual option on it.

I only ever use the Procedural Fairings mod by e-dog. The stock fairings are just weird and have no link to reality.

Well if you mod them well enough, you can set their ejection force, clamshell opening, number of panels, and make them all white.
