I always wonder how these people think everyday's objets and tech, like GPS, TV, cells phones or even toasters work. Magic ?
They don't think. It's not in their mindset; they are not curious about how these things work and take absolutely no interest in them.

They can afford to say such things because they sell, there are theories like the hollow-earth theory, edgar casey, pyramid power, chariots of the gods. All this sells to an appropriately vulnerable population, ive got several boxes of like material i recently inherited, take $50/box (about 20 books to the box) + shipping. People want believe that there is a higher power that will rescue them from a somewhat apparent mortality.

The gods of mesopotamia were original founders of cities, which eventually formed states, each state had its own set of gods and with wars, marriages, whatever they developed pantheons. Murdoch was the father of what we call el, as in Isra'el a variant of al as in ba'al, for example in the story of job the story was probably originally written abou 'al, its largely a cannanite story and depicts life along the upper euphates. Sin is the moon god, associated with wisdom and sexual pleasure, the patron god of Ur. The gods gave people hope and the stories and story tellers brought hope and excitement to their lives. It does the same thing today. It does not matter whether its true, its plausibly consistent with a few facts and it is exciting. The believer is greatful and pays a few tokens of graditude, or in the case of some, a rediculous portion of their income, in hopes of having the knowledge to unmask the bringer and taker of life.

As far as evidence says, I don't believe it. At all. With all our sophisticated, logical, supposedly correct tools available, we haven't found anything like that.

Even so, I do have my own believes (religion, that is). Nobody can strongly disprove my believes nor prove it strongly.
I watch it from time to time. It's enjoyable, but not all that believable. It's funny and can be thought provoking at times. I like how they always leave the conclusion to the viewer.
This.
And every statement is in the form of a question. "Could it be that...?"

Its one of the reason i don't have cable TV, cable TV is 1000 channels of 'waste of time'.
I know right? It's 2015 and we still have the Flat Earth people.

As a matter of fact, one of my homeroom classmates thinks that space and science don't exist.

THIS, people, is why we haven't gone to Mars. We also have idiots who fear the word "nuclear" and who protest not to use RTGs on probes and whatnot...
I am baffled by these posts. I live in the US and I don't know anyone who doesn't believe in the solar system as taught in school and shown in TV and movie entertainment. I can perhaps at least understand some "one" out there not believing in "space". Do you mean not believing in the existence of space or not believing in the exploitation of space? I also don't see how someone cannot believe in "science". It surely exists. Perhaps you mean not believing in a non-bias which is part of the scientific method. As for not being at Mars yet (manned missions), its simply a matter of investing and getting a return on that investment. I think we only landed on the Moon due to the "space race" and the "cold war". Its too bad, but that seems to indicate something about humanity's cultural and regulatory priorities.

I also don't see Lagoswinkler's large anti-reason movement on the internet. What I do see related to such a concept is mostly opportunists making easy money on people who want to be entertained or perhaps at least considering possibilities not presented in serious academia. If scientists wrote more interesting and perhaps even exploitative books and produced more videos with state of the art special effects, more people would spend their money and time on these and less on the "competing" dreck out there.

I'm not suggesting that posters here who share their experiences about "the unenlightened" are lying, but I am saying that I've been all over the US and I have very rarely encountered people who do not have a generally correct interpretation of basic scientific knowledge when it comes to our solar system. People I know might not know the names of the major moons in the solar system or even the order of planetary orbits, but they do find science and space exploration interesting, if not fascinating.

You want to know why aliens have never visited Earth? Because humanity's so full of this crap.

How do you know that aliens aren't visiting us right now. If in fact interstellar travel requires ftl and warp drives, then i think any being capable of ftl travel of this way, pretty much they do not need to make themselves visible to monitor our activities.

Its prolly the crap is the reason they have not revealed themselves if they are here.

PS i dont think FTL is possible, the practical space travel is about 0.01c and we would end up sending durable space seeds to other worlds but not ourselves.
