Well, according to the devs, there will be a DSN: a Deep Space Network around Kerbin (basically, a bunch of radio transmitters on the ground that encircle the planet), so com networks will be pointless for Kerbin.

Well, hopefully it will take nothing more than a simple MM patch to DISABLE this, (if not included stock), for those of us who LIKE creating, and using relay networks...

I know its on hold, and am not sure if it worx for 1.0.5, but a "preview" of what it might be like to play with Ground Stations scattered around Kerbin, there's the KerbinSide Ground Control mod:

I wanted to send a bunch of drop probes to Eve, so I bundled them onto a probe rack and put it in the aft cargo bay of my flagship, the Voyager. (The forward cargo bay holds a lab and a three-seat lander.) The same approach would work just as well for satellites--in fact these drop probes would themselves be fine satellites if I removed the parachute.

I personally plan on putting a large relay satellite into a  high polar orbit around other planets, so I won't need a complicated sat network.

This makes a lot of sense in many ways so we do it on earth too. Far simpler to have 3-6 huge antennas on earth than 3 in space.
Now around other bodies you will need satellites for communication, Mun backside, Minmus and other bodies. Jools muns and both Ike and Duna require extra care as they will get in radio shadow from time to time.

If you are just to deploy say 3-4 satelites somewhere its easiest to use radial stacking, transfer stage, satellite 0 who might be part of core, then, oscar, 2 radial ants, probe core with systems for the rest. if this is part of an larger ship raidal tend to be easier.
I often use small docking ports instead of decoplers, radial mounted and can be reused on the mothership.

For massive deployments with 5-6 satellites or probes radial is again easier. nice to use an 1.25 meter tank as structure.

I usually have a central truss with radially attached satellites. Especially since I never go without a mod that adds more 0.625m parts, including tiny radial decouplers :) Those are so great for satellite deployments.

You can check out a 9-fold probe launcher I sent to Duna in my 0.90 save, also with RemoteTech (hence the need for that many).
