Why Imgur?

I am just wondering why Imgur is used for pictures, it is blocked on most school wi-fi networks, but it is easy to use. Is it because it is so easy to use or because there is album-embedding stuff in the forums?

"Free" is a pretty big factor. You can use smugmug, or zenfolio or picbase or another image sharing site but it's going to cost you. Imgur is free so it used by most people.

It was made with Reddit in mind and was very popular with Redditors who then drove the wider popularity. It's also gone in for "social" features itself.

It's not the only free image host though, not at all. Personally I use Flickr.

The embed features are pretty nice, allowing your captions to show and everything. Personally I use dropbox for single pictures and only turn to imgur for making albums.

Despite frequent slowdowns or stoppages because it's never been able to keep up with demand, I like Imgur because its interface is clear and easy to use.

As well as the easy and free points other have said it also has a very accessible API for developers to connect their sites/apps to.  I use this quite a bit in KerbalX.com and it's free for that, which is great.

Also the imgur "community" is quite a good giggle too!

I like it because it has tools that allow me to take, upload, and share screenshots quickly and easily with a single keystroke.

I have both a photobucket and Imgur account. I prefer photobucket because it is easier to add or change photo albums, however, there is no way to share those albums here.

Same here.  My procedure is: F1, imgur.com, upload images, from computer, select images, and hit upload.

I use ShareX on Windows and Screencloud on Linux. Press button to take screenshot, upload, and have screenshot's link copied to clipboard. Both are free.

I use Flickr also - even with imgur high rez uploads Flickr seems to mangle images less. Upload is simple enough, F1, drag to Flickr browser tab, add album/tags/etc if you like, upload, grab BBCode link, paste into post. I had a Flickr uploader app somewhere but I always forget to open it. No embedded albums is the only problem but I've hardly ever done that anyway.

Imgur ditched all their alternate album styles for the worst one possible for no good reason, I've given up on that place.

I host my images on a special github, and then use the raw links.
