Runway launch position options

Recommended Posts

A fairly simple idea...  When launching from the runway we get the option to launch from either end.

Even if the default when launching from the SPH remains the same, I can't see it being too difficult to program a change into the space centre view so that we click on end of the runway we want to launch from.

The same 'trick' could also be used to select the slipway into the water if they choose to add one. (Hint, Hint)

Theres no weather, so why does East/West takeoffs matter?...Just wonderin' ... :)

There are some challenges that would benefit greatly from being able to launch westward.

Retrograde spaceplane launches, as mentioned.

I want to head westward with my plane, and don't really feel like wasting time turning about.

Because it's a relatively easy thing to implement, and would harm nothing?

I guess it wouldn't be hard to implement, but this is a pretty minor thing. Alternatively you could have you plane spawn facing West and drive off the runway to take off since the land is fairly flat.

I never even thought I would need to launch from the other side of the runway until now truthfully.

I personally liked the idea of being able to have multiple space centers, to allow for different launch trajectories, landing spots, and a groundwork for multiplayer. Hell throw in each space center has their own funds and there are multiple campaigns and you have a whole new game. But that's asking for a lot.

They could just add other runways which would be interesting.

Ok... All good reasons, I guess... :)

I guess, one step further, for "kewlness", and maybe for completing any high-inclination contracts with an SSTO, and for an easier, larger loop-around to the Island Runway, How about another SW-NE runway, intersecting the west end of the existing runway? :D

Maybe someone wants to take off a spaceplane into retro orbit for some reason?

Exactly this.

And if you want to get whatever you built to the sea to you have to drive it the full length of the runway.

Additional runways at different angle would be handy for the same reasons.

a good reason to take off from the other end of the runway is when a survey contract is behind the usual takeoff direction + aircraft with no steering is used,I lost aircraft trying to pass the steep angle of the sides of the runway when turning, so there could be an option to start on the opposite side of the runway, and therefore going "back" of the usual direction of takeoff, I support the idea: D
