Kerbal Freeplay

So, I decided to quit my Muna missions and deleted that save, but I have plans for something way better. Missions all around the Kerbol system, in something of historic accuracy. Enter Kerbal Freeplay. This is going to be sort of with a story.

The Kuputnik

After Werner Von Kerman published the paper on manned rockets, in which he laid out the ability for rockets to be manned, and how that could be used, he became world famous, for the entirety of Kerbal society was about space. Werner was given a strip of coastal land and buildings for the successful launching of spacecraft. This was on the government's dime. Engineers and scientists were hired, as were Jeb, Bob, Bill, and Val. Volunteers began signing up. But the first thing Werner and Gene wanted to do was to launch a self-sustaining satellite into orbit. Kuputnik was the result. It successfully orbited, and proved to fans, media, and skeptics alike that rocketry could put stuff in space.

Project Moho- Kerbal 1 & 2

Following the launch of Kuputnik, Kerbals worldwide rallied for a manned rocket to go to space. Several groups also saw this as a chance to disprove Werner's paper on manned spaceflight orbiting. With much excitment and pressure, the Space Program began Project Moho, with a goal of manned rockets into space, and later manned spaceflight orbiting. The first rocket, Kerbal 1, was to carry one Kerbal above 70 km, and return safely. After much research, math, and building, Kerbal 1 was completed, and was the first manned spacecraft. Jebediah Kerman was the first Kerbal in space, and the first Kerbal to survive re-entry.

Following Jeb's journey into space, Sean's Cannery released the Mk2 Lander Can. Gene Kerman, who now wanted 2 kerbals to go to space in one rocket, saw this as a change to make more news. So the Space Program signed a contract with the Cannery, in which the Space Program would give marketing for this new product, and the Cannery would allow the test of one of these newfangled products. 6 months later, the Space Program unveiled the Kerbal 2, a two seater rocket. Jebediah and Valentina Kerman were the two pilots who would fly this, making Valentina the first female Kerbal in space.

Project Moho- Atlas 1 & 2

After the successful return of Jeb and Val, Space Program rocketeers began to look further. The Kerbal rockets, they decided, while had done their job, were becoming old and outdated compared to some of the parts being released by Rockomax and C7 Aerospace. Plus, contracts were being offered for the testing of new parts. Therefore, Gene Kerman and Werner von Kerman decided to retire the Kerbal rockets. These were replaced by the Atlas series, which continued until the end of Project Moho. Atlas 1 was designed for 3 Kerbals to journey above 70 km and successfully return. This rocket was one of the first of many that were mainly contracted with Rockomax Comglomerate. The Kerbals who were destinied to go to space were Jeb, Bob, and Bill. The safe return of them marked the beginning of the Atlas Rocketry series.

The continuation of the Atlas series was decided. Werner and Gene, after the return of Atlas 1, decided that there would be at least 3 more Atlas flights. However, Jeb had ideas of his own. Kerbodyne had recently released the 'Kickback' solid rocket booster and had put out a contract for 35,000 funds for anyone willing to test it. Jeb saw this as a chance to make a quick buck and take care of the second Atlas flight. Surprisingly, Werner von Kerman endorsed this idea, and was quoted as saying, 'What's the worst that can happen?'. Valentina also endorsed this, saying 'Someone has to do crazy stunts.' Jeb managed to go to space and return, though he definitely voided the warranty on his heat shield.

I still have one more Atlas mission to go, so the final part of Project Moho will be posted this afternoon.

Project Moho- Atlas 3 & 4

With Kerbals making trips to space becoming a semi-regular part of news, Werner and Gene decided go bigger. The public and media, too, were vying for something bigger. Then, Kerbin's First Record Keeping Society announced a contract for 100,000 funds for a rocket that could take a crewed rocket into space, complete an orbit around the planet, and return the Kerbals safely. This made big news in the spacecraft world, and various companies began scrambling together crews and rockets. The Space Program had plans too, and began work on Operation Free-Fall, the project to get Jeb and brothers Bob and Bill, into orbit. But before this could happen, Gene said they needed to test this on a probe first. Thus began Atlas 3, the only unmanned rocket in Project Moho. Scrambled together in 2 months, it was launched, and completed one circuit of Kerbin and made the retrograde burn successfully. However, a software glitch caused the parachutes to jam, and Atlas 3 splashed down hard. No parts were recovered.

Construction on Atlas 4 began as soon as Atlas 3 was rolled onto the launchpad. Competitors were already putting finishing touchs on their rockets. Atlas 4 was put together in less then a month, and Werner was determined to launch it first. Just after dawn, two days after it was finished, Atlas 4 was launched. The quote from Jebediah Kerman, 'It's better to die in a fiery explosion then to die of old age' were the last words spoken by the famed pilot before the spacecraft door was shut. Atlas 4 lifted off and did go to space. After they achieved orbit, Jeb set a second world record- he performed the first EVA and spacewalk. Atlas 4 returned safely and normally- in a ball of superheated plasma. Atlas 4 splashed down and was recovered.

The Space Program was now richer by 150,000 funds. Jeb, Bob, Bill, and Val took a long, deserved vacation, on which Jeb and Val were married. Gene and Werner ended Project Moho and the Atlas rockets, but the Space Program was far from over. Werner had just made a deal with Zaltonic Electronics and Ionic Symphonic Protonic Electronics and he and Gene began preparing for the launching of new probes and satellites.

Kopernius 1- ComSats

The 'Orange Suits' returned from their vacation to find Gene and Werner hard at work. The newest project was now putting satellites into orbit. For this, Werner had developed a new rocket. The Kopernicus rocketry series was designed to carry self-sustaining probes into orbit. The first thing Gene wanted was a series of ComSats to be launched. All three were roaring successes, which set the stage for the mass of LKO satellites which would soon be launched.

Go ahead and give me suggestions!

Kopernicus 2-ScanSat

After the launch of the ComSats, Mortimer Kerman decided ore could make a quick buck for the space program and told Werner to get working on an orbital survey. 4 months later, Kopernicus 2, carrying the ScanSat, blasted off, completed orbit, and successfully completed 2 course corrections (with a little help from F12) and began scanning. Mortimer was extremely excited about this and, on receiving the news during an administration meeting, Linus Kerman claims "Mortimer flipped the table over, had his chair fall down and ran out of the room screaming like a crazed maniac down to the Tracking Station. We're still finding his status reports that happened to be on the table when he flipped it over."

Kopernicus 2-ScanSat 2

Mortimer, although pleased with ScanSat 1, decided more detail had to be surveyed. Therefore, Werner made minor edits to the ScanSat 1 rocket to perpare it for launch, included a Narrow-Beam Scanner. 1 launch, 1 orbit, 3  manevuers, 4 solar panels and 1 F12 later, the Scanner began and started recording. The result? Another eustatic 1 kerbal party that was Mortimer.

With the main part of the Satellite missions over, Werner decided to make history. He and Gene decided to begin Project Muna. But also, behind closed doors and in whispers, some kerbals heard rumors about another mission. One only known as Project Omega.

Project Mun- Muna 1 & MunSat

Project Mun had began. All over the world, Kerbals waited with bated breath, awaiting news of this new project. Werner, who complained about "ze considerable lack of explosions" so far in the Space Program, and suggested an impact probe. Gene decided to go along with this. They named it Muna 1. Live television broadcasts were given, from launch to orbit to transfer orbit to retrograde burn. One orbit around the Mun. And finally, the elusive bang.

After that, Gene said a MunSat should be launched. More bated breath. Another launch, another orbit, another transfer, another retrograde burn, and then orbit! The Space Program now decided to continue with probes and satellites. But there were still whispers of the mysterious Project Omega, and some claimed it might just be one of the craziest ideas of all time.

MunScan 1 & 2

Mortimer ordered another scanner around the Mun, checking for ore. Gene gave in, and told Werner to start working on MunScan 1. To start, Werner modified a Kopernicus 2 rocket used to launch the scanning satellites around Kerbin, by adding more fuel. MunScan 1 performed an orbital survey and also was the closer kerbal-made object to the Mun for now. I think we all know what happened next. Mortimer Kerman=:sticktongue:.

MunScan 2 was launched next, on the same design as MunScan 1. It launched successfully, and made it to the Mun. Scanning begun. Mortimer had another party. Meanwhile, Gene and Werner had handpicked 9 kerbals who were sworn to secrecy. Then, on an average afternoon, all 9 reported to the Administration Building meeting. The only thing on the whiteboard were 2 words. Project Omega.

Muna 3- Flyby

The Muna 2 flyby, while celebrated, was being rethinked. Werner ordered a second mission. Thus, Muna 3 was placed on the drawing board.

A week later (due to the New Years Rocket Sales Event, at a local Kalmart near you!) Muna 3 was taken out of the V.A.B. and perpared for launch. It set a world's first record- first rocket launch of 2016. Once out of the atmosphere, the rocket took pictures of it's journey.

Munar Orbital Observatory

One day, an intern in the R&D was in the cafeteria, eating a sandwich during lunch break. A couple buddies were around, and the intern said, "Wouldn't be great if we had a observatory that was between Kerbin and the Mun?" That might have been the end of the story, except that Linus Kerman was on lunch break at the same time. When Werner heard this, he ordered the intern into his office. Two days later, Gus and the boys at the V.A.B. got instructions to start work on the Munar Orbital Observatory. This also resulted in Kerbal Food Service selling a record number of beef sandwiches.

Once out of the atmosphere, the MOO began taking pictures of it's journey.

Once in it's proper orbit, the MOO began livestreaming and taking photos.

Meanwhile, the new scientific discoveries were copied twice, and an intern took the copies to Werner's office. There, Werner filed the first copied under Mun. But then, he closed M and opened to O, pulling the drawer to the very back. The second copies were filed under Project Omega.

New Year's Ball Drop/Reentry

11:30 pm. Dec 31, 2015. The Tracking Station, while doing a routine debris termination, discovered a fuel tank that was destinied to reenter. Around this time, Kew Kork Kity called and said the ball had went missing. 2 minutes later, livestreaming this:
