Low Munar Orbital Scanning Station and Observatory (L.M.O.S.S.O)

With M.O.O. scanning, Werner decided "Closer." That's how L.M.O.S.S.O. (The Low Munar Orbit Scanning Station and Observatory) came into existence.

Upon launching, the L.M.O.S.S.O. actually got an encounter with 2 satellites.

 

After performing an encounter with the Mun, the thing began taking pictures.

Meanwhile, behind locked doors and classified files, Werner and Gene were now seeking recruits for Project Omega, when they got a phone call from Integral Integrals...

The Integral Integrals Space Station

The phone rang right in the middle of the meeting. Literally. Gene picked up.

"Hello, this is Gene Kerman from KSC, Mission Control speaking. How may I help you?"

"Okay, Gene, this is Warnerfred Kerman from Integral Integrals speaking. Listen, I have a serious problem right now, and I think you guys are the only ones who can resolve it."

"Okay, what's the problem?"

"Do you remember the rumor about the Mobile Processing Lab being a maker of that illegal blue rocket propellant?"

"Yes."

"Well, that was correct, and we, ah, may have put up a space station that, well ah, didn't have enough fuel to get the orbit out of the atmosphere and, ah, now 2 interns and a pilot are up there and might die. Oh, and one more thing- Valentina is the pilot."

Within five minutes, Gene had an uplink to the doomed capsule.

"Integral Integrals Space Station, this is Gene Kerman. Do you read me? I repeat, do you read me?"

There was some static and then Valentina replied.

"Gene Kerman, this is Valentina. Loud and clear, repeat loud and clear!"

A collective cheer went up.

"Alright Val, can you tell me what's up?"

"Us and the Sun."

"Seriously, Val."

"Alright, about a month ago, I heard about this space station for the blue stuff. Werner told me we should look into it. A week later, I managed to register as the pilot.This morning we launched.

  

"So once we launched,with 2 interns on, once at 3 km up, I radioed in and told Mission Control that this wasn't Hasley Kerman, but Valentina Kerman.

"I told them if they didn't tell me what was up, I'd turn around and go full speed toward a building of my choosing. They cracked and admitted that they planned to make blue stuff up there. From there on, I followed standard instruction after that, but by now I planned to radio to you guys.

"But now, our lowest point is inside the atmosphere, at 24,636 meters."

"Oh, great. I have to radio back to Integral."

Integral: "Valentina, why are 2 links open on your radio?"

"Because I've got KSC here, and I'm explaining all this to them."

"Oh." Disconnection.

"Now Val, continue."

"I have Tandin and Hanya up here, and they would be making the illegal stuff if not for the lack of fuel."

"Val, can you land this?"

"I can land anything."

"Good. We've managed to lock on to your signal. Tell the 2 in back that they'll come down or die trying."

Several minutes later

"Val, retract the solar panels."

"Ten-Four."

An explosion rocked the capsule.

"This is Val, we are okay, repeat, we are okay!"

In the lab, Hanya was crying in terror. Tandin tried to comfort her, but he was scared too.

"This is Val, we are deploying chutes!"

"We are several meters off the ground, but we are close to landing."

Then, an explosion rocked the capsule. 

"Val? Val? VAL?!"

Kerbals the world over were riveted to their TV screens. The whole planet held it's breath. The birds stopped singing.

Then, a tinny voice came over the radio.

"This is Valentina Kerman, we are all okay, repeat, we are all okay!"

A cheer engulfed the whole planet.

Within the hour, Warnerfred and several officials were under arrest. Hanya and Tandin both handed in their resignations and registered at KSC. And Gene thought part of the crew had been found...

Returning to Project Muna, Werner ordered a second impact. 5 weeks later, Muna 4 was launched.

Then the signal was lost, but the probe did impact.

Meanwhile, Project Omega was nearing it's final stages...

The wait is over...

Werner now wanted a probe on the Mun. Muna 6 was scrambled together.

The thing had an encounter with a Sat on the way up. And after orbit, Mun encounter, blah this, blah that, 20 minutes of nervousness, 1 F12 and a round of screaming... the thing landed. (Sorry about the the pics.) Also, the thing saw a Kerbin Eclipse. And now for the part you've been waiting for...

Project Omega

Gene held the speech. The very thing that would change Kerbalkind forever. He walked out to the podium, flanked by Mortimer, Linus, Gus, and Walt on one side, and Jeb, Val, Bob and Bill. Werner stood next to Gene. Gene looked out over the sea of reporters, cameras, notepads, vans, and media. He read the following words.

"Chance has ordained that we, as a civilization, are destined to go to the stars. In times gone past, we have seen planets in the night sky. The Mun. Duna. Jool. Dres. Eve. These are places we have only imagined. And now, we have begun to go beyond our planet. We have dreamed of space. Now, fate has ordained that we will go to the stars. For the team here at KSC, has begun work on a project. One that, until now, we have only known as Project Omega. What is this project, you ask? The first step to settling space, to conquering the cosmos, to uncovering the universe. My dear friends... we are going to build a colony... on the Mun."

The whole planet was silent. Gene looked at Werner. Werner looked at Gene. Then Werner brought a bottle of khampagne. The whole planet started cheering. Within a minute, all the ComSats were working overtime. Screaming, shouting, crying.

The fine print really says "build colonies on all objects in the Kerbin system", but who needs the fine print?

Dart Mk1

Werner said the crew at KSC needed to start in aviation. Werner had just completed his paper, "The use of planes in space" and now voted for the creation of one. Gene told Gus to begin work on a plane. Gus made the Dart Mk1.

 

Jeb, of course, was in the cockpit.

The takeoff went fine, though half the runway was used.

The plane flew over the ocean, executed a turn over Booster Bay, then flew inland.

 

The Dart executed a second turn toward KSC, made adjustments on the fly, and cut the engine, opened the brakes and, well, Jeb had some trouble getting the thing down intact.

Meanwhile, Gene thought he had found the first recruits for Project Omega...

Dart "Hummingbird" Mk1

Following the success of the Dart, Werner wanted a highly agile single seater plane. 

The plane is designed to have an agile turning range, and speeds over Mach 1 at low cruising altitudes. However, when launching, it's not the most stable, and was noted to veer off course during launch. It also cannot make 180 reverses.

However, it is able to handle short adjustments very well.

The Mysterious Island

Tandin and Hayna had just finished eating breakfast together. They were considered the cutest couple at KSC, and after the Integral incident, can you blame them? Bill popped in and asked Tandin if he wanted to try out the new Dart 'Carrier' Mk1. After the incident, both of them hadn't even tried going on any rockets. Tandin was ready to decline, but Bill said that Jeb would be flying. And while Jeb had a reputation as a crazed maniac during flights, everyone knew he was the best pilot out there. Tandin agreed and invited Hayna along.

Takeoff was successful. But when Jeb went to land at the island, he saw the following.

"Looks like a runway..." 

Jeb got out to take a look.

This is KerbalCorgi, and I am here to report that I will be continuing threads, as well as others. I sort of abandoned this thread, but now I have decided to continue using the forums. However I will be moving to a different thread for my purposes.
