Big Life Changes!

Well, things are about to change in my life. Mostly for the better! On February 1st we will be moving in to our new house. We've rented a house for 9 years now, and have paid over 84k to our landlord, enough to buy the property and then some. We're moving to a small, modular house on 5 acres. It only has 3 bedrooms, but we will fit. My mother and sister will share the master bedroom, and my brother and I will take the two smaller rooms.

Along with the residence change, there is another change. You may notice my dad wasn't mentioned above. My parents have finally committed to getting a divorce. My mom has been wanting one for years, but my dad was trying to keep everyone together. There have been many problems with him, and ultimately I'm sure it's a step in the right direction, moving separately than him. I still love him and sometimes he's cool, but there's just too much going on. I'm sure after all of this we all will still want to go over and visit him, so it's not like we're totally cutting him out of our lives.

But the final change is one most of you will appreciate. I have lived my entire 18 years with limited internet. 10GB a month at most. (no cable access here) On top of that, for the past few years it's been satellite internet. Which means absolutely no online gaming at all. 10GB is easy enough to use in 2 days of online gaming, and 750ms ping makes it impossible. However, the new property has cable access. :D We will finally have unlimited, <50ms ping internet. I will, for the first time, be able to play online games! :D:D:D Woo!

Well. Guess that's all for now. We've started packing already, and if anyone cares I'll probably be posting updates to this thread on how things are going. :)

Good luck! If you want a good online ahooter try Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, it's only $15 and has provided me with over 500 hours of awesome playtime (I am not responsible for any broken screens, hardware, or physical damage resulting from case openings.).

Modular house? Judging by the Google Images, that seems to look sweet.

That's totally different. What I meant by modular house is one step above a mobile home. It's two halves that are brought on trailers and they put them together on a foundation. So it's more like this:

But a little different, and set on a foundation. Not a whole lot of space, but it's enough.

Wowee, you were renting an entire house for (if my calculations are correct) under $800/mo?  That's what I pay for a studio where I live...

Just remember: it could always be worse :P

$800 on the nose. However, it's a farm house. On a farm. In the middle of nowhere. In Indiana. :P And all we rent is the house and small yard.

IT's bad because we have no internet access! :sticktongue: All we have right now is satellite. :/

That can be remedied - check into adding data to your cell phone plan or check with DISH and see what their internet setup costs...

Make sure that the vehicle carrying your stuff has enough delta-V to reach your new home!

Good luck on your journeys!

Cell phone is crazy expensive. Like, $150/mo for 20GB at like 5Mbps. We will have cable at the new place though!

Always looking forwards:P

Is your house able to have more rooms added to it or am i getting the wrong sense of modular?

No, it's two mobile home halves stuck together. :)

Hey there, best of luck!

I've spent the first 30 years of my life on very limiter internet, I can definetely relate to that. And I don't know about your previous house, but I used to live on a 5-acre plot with my family, and it's awesome. I really miss it! (Note: depending on where you live, a 5-acre plot might be considered huge; in my region it's not large enough to be considered farmland, but it's large enough to be a housing complex).

It belonged to my grandfather, and my mother, aunt and 2 uncles divided it amongst themselves. I have the right for half my mother's part, me and my wife plan on building there in some time.
