Hello dear readers,(love I should srsly stop sounding so formal..)
Hello guys and gals(?)

Hello fellow KSPers... better...

So, the title is a bit unclear.
Are there any mods out there that allow me to mine things like iron ore and then process them to practically make new rocket parts?

Thanks in advance

Thank you.
Even tho it isn't quite what I meant, I mean that i can have a module where I put in some materials(like iron) and it spits out some new parts like a Scanner or so, that can also be used in Orbit or so.

So that I practically do not need Kerbin anymore

Extraplanetary Launchpads allows you to build rockets away from Kerbin, from 'rocket parts':

And in combination with Kethane, you can make the rocket parts from ore you mine:

Yes, and that's exactly what that mod does.  It does exactly, precisely what you want.  Specifically it adds MetalOre as a mineable resource, which you can process into Metal with a smelter, which you can turn into RocketParts with a workshop, which you can then build ships, so you're completely independent from Kerbin except for sending crew home to level-up their experience.

Extraplanetary Launchpads just builds whole ships, not individual parts.  Well, it can build individual parts, but you wouldn't be able to do much with them.  :)  If what you want is to be able to, for example, build just a scanner and then have a kerbal pick it up and bolt it onto an existing ship, then you can do that too, you just need another mod.

Extraplanetary Launchpads and KIS together can be a lot of fun.  For example, I like to play with OPM.  It's fun to launch a big mothership to the outer solar system carrying a generous supply of metal, and when it arrives it builds a miner to resupply itself, then builds all the landers and probes it needs.  You can do a complete grand tour of the solar system without ever going back to Kerbin.

Oh, then I must have understood something wrong.

Today isn't one of my best days, I'm sorry ^^

You don't need Kethane.  Extraplanetary Launchpads lets you make rocket parts from metal, which you make from MetalOre, which you mine.

The mod is fully self-contained, it lets you build ships from complete scratch as long as you have a smelter, workshop, launcher, and a place to mine metal ore.

This might be a little closer to what you want. OSE workshop provides a 3D printing lab part and gives the regular science lab the ability to produce one part at a time, which can be assembled using KIS.

It is perfect for adding on science experiments.

You are of course absolutely right.

I couldn't find it mentioned specifically in the EL thread OP, and it mentions Kethane, so I assumed I didn't remember correctly how it worked (I was sure I hadn't used Kethane, even though I've had EL installed, but I've been known to be wrong every other blue moon or so - oh look, a blue moon!).

Thank you alot!

So guys, I think I have enough mods and all stuff now.
I also made a general mod library update because it fits so nicely in.
