You know, I think I saw an Mi-17 in flight a few months ago. I think the Army bought some to train foreign pilots at Fort Rucker.

It looks a little too moded for me, but it still looks pretty nice, especially considering how hard it can be to pull off the shapes of Soviet helicopters.

Actually the most distinctive external difference between the Mil Mi-8 and its descendant is the tail rotor position, right starboard on the Ol' 8 and port on the 17, just as we can see on the first post picture. So we actually got a Mil Mi-8 here.

You should try flying the Mi-8 in Digital Combat Simulator (DCS).  It's a monster...not as lethal as the DCS Ka-50 though.
