Audi Superbowl ad - Starman.

Though I understand the sentiment, I have never been sure the comparison works. Are they trying to tell us that driving an Audi is akin to working with hard to handle, experimental and dangerous equipment that takes years of training and experience to understand? Of are they telling us that the car has all the comfort and controllability of a barely contained explosion that shakes you like a rag doll and might kill you in an instant?

There are many great comparisons to be made. They did a similar commercial before. It just seems a bit... lazy, to just shout astronaut! and to hope that the comparison works out.

And yes, this might be a case of professional deformation on my end :D

Why would you advertise an R8 in the USA? Afaik you cant realy use it properly there, isnt there a general speed limit?

How fun is accelerating if you have to stop after 3-4 seconds?

Sports cars are not sports cars because they can go fast in a straight line, despite the speed being advertised in the video. Otherwise very few sports car would actually be sold. Italy is home to many famous sports car manufacturers, among which Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati, though only knows a speed limit of 130 km/h. Most countries have limits between 110 and 130 km/h.

I didn't really care for the car. That's not why I liked the commercial. I liked it because it depicts an old depressed astronaut ( possibly because the lack of manned spaceflight advancements ) reminded of the power he once felt on top of the SaturnV.

Oh and David Bowie.

More like definitely instead of possibly. Anyway IIRC some roads in Germany have no limits, that's probably why they have a car like this. Audi is German, after all.

Pretty sure Audi bought Lamborghini a while back.

That is both right and totally irrelevant :D The notion that the country of origin of the manufacturer, or the owner, or speed limits would be of influence on the feasibility of selling cars is silly, especially in today's globalized car market.

The correct answer is lots. Lots of fun.

I am not sure why the forum insists on making adding a video a pain.

Ford, Audi, Chevy, Ferrari, so what? Cool commercial, cool imagery and a good song.

Just one problem. The clip at the end shows an S-IVB stage jettisoning with 3 ulage rockets and then switches to and Audi logo. In real life, the Saturn V only flew its S-IVB With 2 ulage rockets, so the film at the end is in fact from a Saturn 1B, not a Saturn V. Just pointing it out since I'm a nerd about these things.
