My proposal for an official flag of Kerbin!

I noticed that Kerbin didn't have an official flag so I thought I'd have a shot at making one!

I'd love some feedback! :D

I'm hereby releasing the flag under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license, so feel free to use it in your save files! In addition, I'm waiving the attribution requirement for screenshots taken of Kerbal Space Program as well as blueprints generated in Kronal Vessel Viewer which feature the flag. Enjoy!

I like it, what do the circles and colours represent though?

What does the blue and red stand for? I see we've gone for a similar thing with the way we represented Kerbin + moons though :)

Awesome flag, here's mine:

Flag of the UNK (Kerbal equivalent of the United Nations):

Flag of the Space Program:

Both are made from the stock KerbinMun flag, but with Minmus and the name of the Organization that uses them added, but I might replace the UNK flag with the one you made since it's awesome. :D

Thanks! I've licensed the flag under CC BY 4.0, this basically means you can do whatever you want with it, as long as you credit me if you share the flag with someone else. In addition I've waived my attribution rights when the flag is used in the context of a screenshot from KSP or a blueprint from Kronal Vessel Viewer!! :)

That's easy... it's KSP's logo colors! And if you blow up the red letters and view it at a very large size, the red letters are outlined in white!

In the near future, I will be adding an entire thread that actually is a repository for my images - complete with downloadable flag images...

The overall design was inspired by one of the existing flags in the stock game, plus a few modifications:

- The olive branches symbolizes peace; in my personal headcanon, the Kerbal civilization experienced a devastating global war, and in the aftermath established a unified world government called the Kerbal Federation to prevent the tragedy from repeating itself.

- The six white circles containing dark aqua semi-circles represent the phases of the Mun; contrary to popular belief, this is not a reference to space exploration, but rather, the modern Kerbal civilization's disposition towards rational thought and empirical science (Kerbals abandoned religion almost 150 year ago, resulting in rapid technological and social progress).

- The aqua used for the background symbolizes neutrality; just like how the real-life United Nations uses light blue for their flags, peacekeepers from the Kerbal Federation Armed Forces wear aqua berets and helmets.

Generally speaking, it's a bad idea to put text on national flags (especially long phrases), for the following reasons:

- The text becomes hard to read when viewed from a distance or flown from a tall flagpole

- Flags are meant to be recognizable on either side of the fabric, and any text on flags would end up being reversed on the other side

- When a flag is hung from a pole on a windless day, the way the fabric collapses into folds means any text quickly becomes incomprehensible

Also, it's generally a good idea to limit the number of colors on the flag to just two, three or four, to make it easier to reproduce (the less colors a flag has, the easier it is to turn it into a monochrome stencil for labelling equipment/gear)

Here are some other flags I've made:
