Spacecraft Limit

Is there a limit to the number of spacecraft the game can handle in Career Mode? My save game has been freezing with a few minutes the last few days. I'm going to try reinstalling.

There is no official limit, no. Your game is limited only by what your gaming rig can handle. Fiddle with some of the settings to try and get it working better, or just have less ships doing things.

Out of curiosity, just how many ships are you talking about?

Also, what mods are you running?

Limit even in stock is 4GB limited if you use actual crafts not loads of junk. 
I tend to run into problems with this in endgame even if lightly moded as in KIS / KAS / Tac / Mechjeb settings. 
here it would be perhaps 30 +200 part ship and bases and perhaps 50 smaller stuff from junk to 20 part probes.

I had about 30, but I just deleted 5 old probes, and cleaned out some old saved ships. Seems a bit better. My only mod is Mechjeb.

I have a lot of debris floating around. I mean A LOT. I like leaving discarded boosters in various orbits.

That's the source of your problems. Delete em or deorbit and you'll be fine.

30 ships are not that many.

I actually have an Orbital Sanitation Department space station with "Debris Interceptor" Probes and all of my launches are fully compliant with the Clean Space Act.

Nevertheless, accidents happen (I've had orbital collisions and I once blew up the fuel tanks I was trying to tow), there is no convenient way to get rid of spent trans-lunar stages, and rescue contacts leave a lot of crap around.

I may have to put Orbital Sanitation Department space stations at Mun and Minmus.

Well I just deleted 116/117 pieces of debris, some of them quite large. I left one in existence because it is in a kerbol system escape trajectory and I'm rather proud of it.
