Does anyone else find Kerbol too big?

Pretty much everyone does that, we all have our own interpretations of what KSP should be.

And everyone else's are wrong except mine, so lets all get back to playing mod-free and100% stock :sticktongue:

But I dont see how this change would be that big of a deal. Squad honestly could have done it in any of the previous updates, not mentioned it in the change log, and the majority would be none the wiser.

If it makes things properly "scale" then why not?

Scale is important, just ask the 8 inch tall, lumpy statue of James Bond I made years ago in middle-school. His hands are larger than his face

It's not your fault. I get similarly confused when people use "Kerbol" as the name of the Sun.

No. It's the sun. It should be big and bright. Bigger than our actual Sun because we misrepresent it in our minds as far bigger than it really is.

But at what cost? A sun that is an order of magnitude too large for its mass? It would practically fall apart if it were in a real system.* The star makes no sense as it is. And if your reasoning for the sun being big is that we think it's bigger than it should be in real life, then it follows that we must have spaceships that fly as if there is air or water in space, or planets that don't move. That's what Spaceflight is like in people's minds, after all.

if it were a real system = if it was enlarged by a factor of 10.

The sun is big.

But it's not that big.

I have no problem with the size of the Sun (or the planets) in the game coupled with the spaceflight mechanics.

One of the (many) things I don't like about RSS is that the Sun is way too small. I don't care if it's more realistic. It's too small. Also? When I try to take un-telescoped pictures of the Moon. That's too small too.

It's literally the exact same size as it is in real life!  The Moon is really far away. Of course it's going to look small in the sky. In real life, it's smaller in the sky than the hole of a piece of notebook paper held at arm's length. If you think its angular size should be bigger, then hold alt and zoom in and out.

True story, from when my son was old enough to be able to know that I was full of it, but not yet old enough to pin me down in debate:

  • Me (excited):  "Hey, did you hear the news?
  • Son:  "No, what?"
  • Me:  "NASA's going to send a mission to land on the sun!"
  • Son:  "But they can't!"
  • Me:  "Why not?"
  • Son:  "Because they'll burn up."
  • Me:  "Oh, it's okay.  They're going to go at night."
  • Son:  "But... but... the sun shines all the time."
  • Me:  "Not at night it doesn't!" (pointing out window)  "See how dark it is?"
  • Son:  "But it... you... um... well, you know how, like, when it's in the middle of the night here, but then it's daytime in India."
  • Me (rolling eyes, explaining slowly and patiently):  "Yes, but this is an American spaceship."

(Yes, I'm basically Calvin's dad.)

THAT'S ADORABLE!!!!!
