Aaaand this is why all the battery manufacturer tell you not to do this very thing on their labels. I am glad for youtube and the internet, where we have people doing things other people should not do in an controlled environment to sate our curiosity.

this one was forcibly set ablaze. most of the ones in consumer products are igniting because they are being over volted, discharged too deeply and are given sub standard saftey boards that dont work. ive seen boards where only about a third of the components were populated. ive seen zener diode references voltages provided instead with a voltage divider (which unlike the zener circuit varies its output based on the input voltage). ive seen inductors replaced with zig zag patterns on the pcb. you would think the part that keeps your lithium cells from exploding would have a bit better quality control.

Looks more like a Lithium Polymer battery to me. Those are much more unstable than Li-Ion batteries.
Of course, any battery-type is dangerous when being given inproper treatment...

Modern batteries usually need to be forced to explode. Unless you find yourself in a RUD.
