Thanks mate, yeah any pics you have would be lovely to see! So are the barges behind him? Some tugs are designed to be driven in both directions.

Yes, the tug is actually pushing the barges. The torque the tugs have is quite impressive. Mostly, the tug is always in the rear, but depending on cargo requirements, I've seen the tug in the middle of the barges in a setup like this:

Barge---Barge---Barge---Barge---Barge---Barge
Barge---Barge---Tug---Barge---Barge---Barge---Barge   ===> Direction of travel.
Barge---Barge---Barge---Barge---Barge---Barge

On rare occasions, there might be two tugs - and it all depends on the cargo being carried. We see everything from coal, grains, petrol products, chemicals, and gravel pass by.
