Transfer science between ships using RT and Ship Manifest

Recommended Posts

So, is there any way to transfer science points between ships using RemoteTech, Ship Manifest or any other mod? It kind of makes no sense that I need to dock two ships to transfer numerical data. I want to set up an orbital science station around Kerbin and have it receive science data from probes etc.

Its quite easy to pick up science from Mun and Minmus or say... Ike. Its no problem to create some kind of unmanned probe and have it return to Kerbin, but this lacking feature kinda makes me sad. :)

Another idea I had was cutting all communication from KSC and set up a mobile command with 6 kerbals in orbit.

Better ideas? :D Thanks.

You mean science experiments? EVA kerbal can collect them. Or you directly transmit them. It doesn't make sense to transfer them unmanned - how could a surface sample automatically go to your station from your probe without someone actually moving it? You can of course transmit, receiving a fraction of the science point for those experiments. The whole thing is by design, I think, and makes sense to me.

And also for RT, 6-kerbal command station is only for control. Transmitting science still needs a connection to KSC AFAIK.

Of course it does not make sense for surface samples. But numerical data like temperature, pressure and so on? Its mundane to transfer data in real life from probes back to earth. The point is, I can transfer the data to KSC, but not to other ships which contain a science lab. I could slap the data on a harddisk from the Tarsier mod and send it back to the station of course, but meh. :D

In my opinion, if I go the extra mile to cover the whole Kerbon system with satellites, I want to choose where I send the data, not just to KSC. :D

No.  Science is not "pumpable" like fuel.  It takes a Kerbal on EVA to move science from 1 ship to another.  Which, I admit, is ridiculous (as is the transmission limit) for purely numerical stuff like temperatures and pressures.  But that's the way the game works.  So probes must either return or transmit their data.  There's no transferring it without Kerbals.
