Hi, people. Need some help here.
I want to use Kerbol system in my game. I asked KasperVld for permission to use it, but there's no answer for 3 days already. So, gyus, what're you thinking about that? Can I use that without any violation of copyright?
What I wanna do: Use a Kerbonaut as a survival main hero. Use a Kerbin as a survival map, and, of course, I'm thinking about spreading different quests for other planets.
So, it would be great to see your opinion here too, but mostly I want to see here your prediction: would KasperVld allow me to do that or not. Let the topic begin.

Three days isn't really a long time to wait for an official response.

Not a lawyer, but I'm going to guess:  NO

Well it would be more up to Squad to decide, not any one employee.

What can you offer them in return for using their IP?  There are usually fees involved in licensing an IP for use by a third party, and if I were Squad, I'd also want to see evidence that the third party was capable of producing quality work that wouldn't adversely affect the value of the IP before I would consider a request like that.

So if you want my prediction, based on what you have described in the post, I don't see this happening.

It is unlikely you will even receive official permission for something like this. There are too many risks for the IP holder. In many countries, the owner is legally required to defend the IP if he does not want to lose the sole rights to it. However, fan work is often not a problem, though there are limits to what is still accepted, and it is mostly tolerated rather than permitted (in the sense that the work can still be prohibited at any point, especially when things change).

What are your plans? Is it just fan work in the shape of a game, or are you trying to start up something commercial?

AFAIK, it depends if you are selling the game. If you are planning on selling the game commercially, that would definitely not be OK. If you're just making one or two copies to play or give away to a friend, I'd say that that would be okay. Don't quote me on that, though.
