Opression happens to slaves, yes, but it can also happen to non-slaves.

Either way, "Enslaved" is a very fluid term considering that slave can mean many things, And the uses for slavery may change with time, Perhaps there are new jobs in the 22nd century that require a human to do.

I suspect the colonists will all be unemployed? Cuz the cost for them to produce anything for use on Earth will be too high, and much of the supplies the colonist consume will either be produced with automation assistance, or be shipped from Earth. So the colonists probably would just do a tiny bit of work maintaining their experiments, and spend most of their time sitting around, much like the Biosphere project personnel did.

In my stories, The Earth is actually ostracized. having been taken over by a corrupt regime. Now as for jobs, A lot of jobs may open in the future, And in my stories for example: Job automation is banned on Mercury. Making it a haven for people who need work.

And get a sun-tan, like superfast.

Idea: variations on humans.

Mercurians, Selenites, Ceresians, Spacefarers,Ort cloud settlers, Callsioans, Moonlings(all moons) : radiation resistance, reduced strength, and bone density.

Venusians: slightly reduced strength.

Martians: Radiation resistance, reduced strength, increased lung capacity.

Jovians, Saturnians: Super strength, radiation resistance.

Titanians:  Reduced strenght and bone density, strong chest and arm muscles for flying.

I don't think people will ever live on another planet unless they evolve and don't need air to stay alive. The things they need must be produced on earth and to transport it would cost a fortune. We live in a capitalistic world so everything that doesn't provide profit is just a waste of everything. I guess that only rich people who are interested in traveling to space would go. They need to live like astronauts.

It wont be long before we can cultivate the soils of other planets. A hundred years from now our tech should easily do that.

Have you considered the implications of the first crimes committed on these colonies? Murder for example.

Imagine.... the outrage on Earth and ALL the colonies after the first rope? What would be the long term consequences for these colonies?

Imagine the excitement if an alien artefact was found, it would only need to be tiny, say.... a ring... who wore it? Why was it lost? Would they attempt a cover up?

And... imagine the excitement....anger? if the Eath President was to visit a colony? (or even the POTUS if you like)

From one long time author to another, Good luck.

Suggestion. I have not seen your work, yet, although the link you provided will be used when I have more time.

Allow me to elaborate. I have seen stories about life on colonies before, but not many, if any, considers the wider implications of life on colonies.

For example, decisions made on the colonies would impact most other colonies, in fact, Earth itself. How would these colonies deal with crime? How would they feel being told to "space" an a murderer or bad person? Crime on Earth is one thing, committed and dealt with by people we do not know, but a victim, an offender and those that punish him or her would have to deal with it all, probably it would involve their feelings as to why they left Earth in the first place. How can starting a colony, a new life, taking life TO another world impact these people if they are told to end the life of someone that they know? If they did nothing, would they ever be able to trust that person again, would it be safe to ignore the offence?

Emotions are one thing, but being a colonist doesn't mean your feelings are imprisoned on a colony with you.

Its actually an exciting thing to consider, at the end of the day, colonists might be alone, on Mars, for example, but their feelings and emotions are not, they will forever be tied to Earth, but what happens when the home they are making is violated... I suspect even millions of miles from home, they will be unwilling to cut the apron strings....

BTW..... the site changed the word rope into rope. change the o to an a

Sorry, I hope I'm not really breaking any rules, I'm not using the word in a bad way... just helping a fellow author.

One of the things in the story i've written is that through the use of seeder ships, All the major planets and moons have been fully populated. So most people wouldnt know each other, Plus the confines wouldnt be all that cramped because of the use of self replicating robots, Large structures can be produced for little to no price other than time.

Ahhhh.... then your colony future is more distant in time than what I had in mind.

There is more adventure in being the first colonists to a new world. Your future is more akin to Star Trek... and while I like Star Trek... I think its more exciting to think what it would be like to be there at the start... even a broken water catalyst therefore would have much more of an adventure behind it, getting it fixed without being able to rely on help from Earth before everyone was dead.

Earth is actually not a factor in Solar politics anyway, It lost its title of importance in the 2060's when its governments fell to a cruel and oppressive power built around an amalgamation of China and North Korea, Then corrupted by power. The result is that the majority of Colonies break away and successfully expel supporters of the Terran regime, With the exception of Luna which is too close. And Neptune whose loyalties had always lied with the Regime.

Earth was only freed of the Regime when Saturnian forces destroyed the orbital defenses and bombarded the planet with Gigaton nuclear weapons until the Regime surrendered, Which it did not do until more than half the population had died.
