Side Rails?

I'm building a "cat-walk" platform on a large heavy lander in 100% stock, can't decide on what to use for side-rails.

I've tried I-Beams but they're a tad too big,

I've tried struts but my Kerbals tend to clip right through them,

for the moment, I'm using a whole bunch of 1x1 panels but that increases the part count too much.

why can't we have actual guard rails in stock?

Cubic octagonal struts maybe?

- Struts do not have colliders - the visible bar is only a visual effect and has no physical influence whatsoever.

TweakScale can rescale pretty much anything.

Yeah, TweakScale isn't exactly "100% stock"

I'd like to have something like this too!

Rule of thumb for stock parts, if you can attach something to it, a kerbal will not clip through it.

I'm having difficulty thinking of anything less Kerbal than guard rails.

Try ladders. I've never used them for guardrails myself but if the lander tips, you can have your kerbals hang onto them hollywood-style.

Maybe the small landing gear leg in its extended position attached to some small cubic struts. I don't think Kerbals clip through them.
edit - derp, meant landing leg, not gear, that would look weird!
