Why mankind not returned to Moon

Why can't the KSP forum design a cost effectivemoon rocket and submit it to NASA or ESA?

Do you really think that a bunch of kids playing a video game are smarter than the thousands of scientists and engineers that work at NASA and its contracting companies?

Because "Moar boosters!" is not cost-effective.

You mean the thousands of scientists and engineers who also play KSP?

I have a few friends who work for NASA, and they mention it quite a lot. Especially their colleagues' habits regarding it.

@Nibb31 Well, I play KSP and I'm currently working on designing a turbopump for a second stage engine. But I agree that the engineers and scientists at space angencies and private companies are more than capable of doing their job. If they 'can't' do it, the the ones that play KSP wouldn't either... But I think he was joking anyway.

Yeah, they are very capable of doing their job. That is, if they were actually able to do it. They have the skill and the knowledge, yes. But due to the insane bureaucracy of NASA, they get heavily bogged down with paperwork and formalities which take up more work effort than actually building/designing a rocket. Plus they are often assigned work more often than they're let to their own devices. Plus there's drama between people that gets in the way... Power point making has become what a lot of engineers do. Although that's the case anywhere, really.

Ever read the comic strip Dilbert? It's kind of like that. They're competent (some of them may not be, as there's variation in any group), but that doesn't mean the job is done well. There are other factors which affect what the end result will be and how long it takes to get to it.

Yeah I know, I work for a contractor of AEB (Brazilian Space Agency), and man... the paper work sometimes is endless... But since we are actually talking about KSP player design and cost efficient rocket to go to the moon, remember, the ones able to do it also have their job, so they would do it as a second job or in their spare time. Communication/documentation would also be a huge problem. Let alone organizing all these people. Who would pay for the prototypes, who would manufacture, assemble and test them? There would be a lot o worse problems.

Hmm... didn't we had a KSP community cubesat sending thread here ? Proposals had been to get the thing to Phobos/Deimos, in fact, using a 3U cubesat. Problems have always been funds.

EDIT : thread :
