I don't often find much to complain about with the game but I do have one major gripe and I really hope its at least on squads radar in terms of some kind of improvement.  Bases!  I continually see contracts to construct surface bases but I really hate the current system of wedging rocket parts together with docking nodes.  

 

Dear Squad and devs, if you read this, please please look at giving us some dedicated surface modules with a sensible means of connecting them at the landing site.  It can only make KSP an even better experience.

And yes, it's a long-standing wish-list item from a lot of folks (myself included), and has been brought up before.

Expandable modules would work best for this me thinks. That and some sort of corridors that could be connected KAS-style (wide enough for the crew just so it doesn't feel like we are squeezing poor kerbals through fuel pipes when transferring them).

Aside from this, I would also love more habitats/orbital modules. It just feels wrong to put kerbals in hitchhikers and lander cans.

agreed station - modules orbital or surface. I can't honestly take any kind of station design seriously until there implemented.

A good "stockalike" suggestion for those would be a 3,75m series of parts which are half-cylindrical? Much like a scaled up Hitchhiker that is sawed in half so it has a flat base to which you can attach feet, a sky crane or a landing engine, and stick it to a central spine-like structure for launch.

Such a part could have 1,25m attachment nodes at either end to stick on stuff like airlocks or docking ports.

The base systems mod is great but I was never crazy about the form factor. I feel like half an MK3 is where it's at.
