ksp kerbal helmets mod

I'm trying to work out how I could replace the mesh of the helmet. not the texture.
to more resemble something like a shuttle or Russian space helmet

Pro props has bunch of alternate helmets for KIS. Maybe that'll help you. Interested to see what you come up with!

Maybe even reshape it to be more cylindrical, to shape with a kerbal's head better

Hiya, the snag with using KIS which is the mod that pro props rides upon means that while although you can swap helmets while on EVA they do not stay when climbing back into the cockpit,  which from your description sounds more like the effect you want. I know texture replacer can change the outward appearance of helmets and there are a couple of mesh switch options, interstellar and firespitter, perhaps in combination they can achieve the helmet swap in such a way that kerbal crew while boarded will be wearing your custom helmet.

The making of the actual helmet is fairly easy so I'd try to sort out the application of it before worrying too much about appearances

It would be cool to be able to swap helmets in the IVA scene, to add flight helmets to airplane crews.
